Give it up eetdrt - these guys have you beat. They already know everything and fortunately for all of us have plenty of free time to share it with us.

I especially like Sr. Bill-spellcheck-M - L - he doesn't even bother to read other people's posts much. He just attributes whatever the L he wants to them - and rants. If someone says A is true then they must believe that everything else is false. Sure beats the L out of having to do any critical thinking. Good stuff man.

And Baja Bernie - distinguishing between between newbies and oldies - L -just read the freaking posts and repond or not man. It might just be possible that someone who doesn't post much actually knows something.

Neta K you guys convinced me - old-woman-like bickering is good for the board.

Me rindo.

Mr Bill did an excellent read and post and yet you say he doesn't even bother to read "much".

I don't have any "interesting Baja Tales" cause I have only been going to and living in Puertecitos for 24 years. Before that the mainland. Guess I am" dull too" !!

Braulio....Don't let a few narrow-minded people run you off. Posting on a thread or verbal warefare is no real indication of Baja knowledge.

Some profess to be the all knowing and all seeing...let them. Even noobies can cut thru the b.s. and figure it out. Class clowns always need attention.

In my opinion, the last thing this board needs is to lose anyone who has a real love for Baja and wants to freely share experiences.

Many people don't post because it;s not worth the hassel of dealing with the "GODS OF BAJA"

That is where we all lose...Lighten up everyone....Liife is too short... Gary

I guess we just disagree Sr. Beercan - but let me run an example by you - Sr. Billy says this about Baja Californianos who don't know computers.

For example the guy who worked on my transmission this morning is 3rd generation Baja Californiano - and he doesn't happen to be ignorant. He wouldn't know one end from the other as to a computer - but if you sit down and talk to the guy he has some interesting real life stories about his state.

L - he might even know more than Billy or JR.

Likewise with most oldtimers in BC.

I guess I'm just out of step with most here on this board.

Oh well.

I think perhaps I was in error regarding BRAWL-io, it should be BAWL-io.

It is interesting that he complains about my not reading the thread and responses before expressing an opinion on whatever subject I wish. Interesting because he then goes on to MISTATE what I actually say. i.e. I referred (sarcastically) to his statement:

"The folks I know who really understand the people and culture of Baja wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on".

with my own reply:
"That would be a pretty ignorant group of people. Most people I know, including those who are not geeks, could figure out how to turn one on. Hint-There's an ON button."

His summation of the exchange:

" I guess we just disagree Sr. Beercan - but let me run an example by you - Sr. Billy says this about Baja Californianos who don't know computers."
"For example the guy who worked on my transmission this morning is 3rd generation Baja Californiano - and he doesn't happen to be ignorant. He wouldn't know one end from the other as to a computer"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I, in no way, implied that people who didn't know computers were ignorant, although it would have been a correct statement. The dumbing down of our language has resulted in confusion regarding the definition and usage of words. To be ignorant is NOT to be stupid. There are a plethora of subjects on which I am IGNORANT because I haven't studied or been exposed to them. It should go without saying that a person who knows nothing about computers is ignorant on that subject.

Be assured that I read AND comprehend the thread and responses. The ones that are coherent, that is.

Bill -

You most certainly did imply that people who don't know computers were ignorant in the general sense. If you're looking for examples of the dumbing down of language usage in America maybe you show look inward.

The word "ignorant" can refer either a person who lacks knowledge in the general sense - or it can be used to describe someone lacking knowledge of a specific field.

Anyway I'm glad you staightened us out - in the future when you use the word to describe ignorance of a specific thing you might consider including what the thing is - otherwise how are we to know.

I still don't know what the field you had in mind was - my mechanic is very technically/mechanically inclined - he just doesn't happen to know anything about computers - I suppose he has no need.

Again - thanks for making yourself clear.

Strictly Speaking, Bawlio

The word ignorant is used to indicate a lack of knowledge, not a lack of INTELLECT.

As our language has deteriorated, among the less literate the words have become synonymous. I will continue to use the word in it's correct sense. It is not up to me to descend to your level of understanding.

What I wrote was factually correct. My words did not attack anyone's intellect.

As usual you're wrong on all counts Wilhelm - go to the Miriam-Webster website at:

http://www.m-w.com/

Enter the word "ignorant" in the online dictionary and read definition 1b:

ignorant: "resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence <ignorant errors>".

Now take the word "intelligence" and run it through the thesaurus at the same website.

You'll find that the "intelligence" and "intellect" are synonymous.

So yes Wilhelm - "ignorant" may be used to show lack of intellect.

What's even more important is common usage in polite society.

Consider the following scenario:

It's a hot day in Mexicali.

Wilhelm has had a long day and is longing for a cold libation with some friends. So he stops off at the Berlin 77 bar on his way home. He asks the bartender for a "Washington Apple".

The bartender says, "I'm sorry sir - I don't know how to make one".

Wilhelm says, "You're ignorant".

The bartender says, "What?".

Wilhelm repeats, "You're ignorant."

As Wilhelm's body is shot like a missile through the front door, it occurs to him that he won't be having a cold libation with his friends that particular afternoon.

He sits confused with his butt in the stinking gutter - thinking to himself, "What I said was factually correct. My words did not attack anyone's intellect".

Machs nichts - tonight Wilhelm drinks alone.

Wilhelm - Listen dude - I have to grab a flight to Guadalajara in 9 hours. I really don't have any more time for this - so you'll get the last word. Let me just leave you with some friendly advice. When you use words that may possibly be construed to be provocative make your meaning clear. Eliminate ambiguity. Choose courtesy over being what you perceive is factually correct.

Your remarks offended me - and people I know and love.

Wedersehen wey.

Oh - and BTW - I recommend the Berlin 77 for folks needing to cool off if they're in the downtown Mexicali.
