This thread should be started again so that those of us who are truly interested in SMOKE FREE restaurants can get information on where to find them. The smokers who have posted inconsiderate comments here are off base. This is a good subject, one that I personally would like information on. The few times my husband and I or our children go out to dine, we look for places where we don't have to breathe in smoke. I don't mind smokers and their smoke in the right places but I do mind it when I'm trying to eat. I used to go to Amore at Villas de Loreto (hotel closed today) a lot becuse it was a completely non smoking property but now I just have to determine where the most ventilated place is as there are no eateries that are non smoking in Loreto...well not yet! I am considering on making my winter coffee shop a non smoking eatery now, as this fall we'll be adding a deli with sandwiches and deserts along with the fresh roasted coffee we've been serving for two years. So for me, the comments in this thread coming from concerned non smokers do have an impact on a business decision that we're in the process of making. We're in baja and this subject has everything to do with baja.

Noticed that it was. I think this is a good alternative for this and any time in the future for those irritated by "their" thread becoming a natural conversation and wandering in directions they hadn't anticipated.

From the other side of the counter, I think most restaurant owners DO respond to feedback. I have noticed changes in a couple of favorite restaurants in La Paz because of respectful complaints. If a long-time customer walks in to a restaurant with a group and informs the proprietor that regretfully they can't eat there today because of the smoke, then walks to the competition, that communicates a message. :D

as an ex restaurant owner I agree with you. I always took action on every complaint.

I always enjoy the conversational tone of the Nomad threads. Conversations do sometimes become prickly, and it is all part of communication among any group of people, whether face to face or more anonomously. The occasional good natured jab is irresitable (Bruce, I really do enjoy your creative spelling and hope it always remains so), and I hope that any testiness on my part stops way short of hurt or offense to any fellow member.

I had thought of starting a thread that discussed the issues of staying on topic, being polite, being honest, etc. It seems to come up from time to time in various threads, such as this one, and perhaps that is enough.

On smoking, I'm an ex smoker, and the longer I'm away from it the less I enjoy the scent. Most Loreto restaurants (and our Loreto house!) are well ventilated or outdoors, and I find it to be a non-issue. I know some people are allergic, or that it can be a family issue, and I respect their feelings.
