Time to go the beach and enjoy the life and friends we have.

What about the poor workers?

Don't tell me you don't like the sculpures on the Malecon either.

Gnukid:

Are you in La Paz? Do you have access to some actual news regarding a building failure? If so, please share.

You're right I have no new information, I apologize for my glee in pondering the fate of Magote. I know nothing except my opinion about the state of Magote.

I am trying everything to find out more but there is no information, we can't see much, now. Its windy. We are trying. In the course of hours we will know more.

But, yes we are really happy. If you lived here you would be too.

#2 It's been 3 years since I was out there and there were only a few small vacation type cabins then. I haven't a clue where the big stuff was put but it shocked me last time in La Paz at night you could see the huge crains out there all lit up.

I phoned a friend whose office looks straight out over the Malecon towards the Mogote construction. He said he could see nothing unusual at all.

NO APPARENT DAMAGE VISIBLE

I have a clear view of the high rises on the tip of Mogote and I see no damage on the east side of the development. It is now 1:25 PM, 12-28-07. It is possible that the several cranes that were visible a few days ago have been moved or perhaps blown over. It is also possible that damage has occurred and may be visible from the north or west sides of the high rises.

A few days ago, when the wind was at its strongest, the high rises disappeared from view, obscured by the sand that was blowing in the air. The sight confirmed what I have always thought, that Mogote is not a desirable place to live, golf or do much of anything else, except collect seashells on a fine day.

Since I'm sure others share my opinion that the high rises on Mogote are eyesores that resemble the worst kind of public housing project, it may be that rumors of their collapse are mere wishful thinking.

Understandable, that.

But it is a given that one day -- whether it's five, ten or fifty years from now -- a storm surge is going to take those buildings out. That project is insane.

On last night's radio show, I insited (the instigator) the listeners to help out this Dia de los Inocentes, so if you had tuned in you would have known that December 28 is Dia de los Inocentes :lol::lol:

This quote from last year

Inocente palomita que te dejaste engañar. :saint:

Dia de los Inocentes remotes back to the days of King Herod and the massacre of incocent children when the Reyes Magos told him that they were taking gifts to the new king, and fearful that someone would take his title ordered all children under 5 killed. In México it has become a tradition for hundreds of years. I'ts day of inocent saints. It is all leading to Dia de Reyes. In any case today no one should lend money, books, tools, etc, because they will not return, the person that receives the items or money has to say INOCENTE PALOMITA QUE TE DEJASTE ENGAÑAR, SABIENDO QUE EN ESTE DÍA NADA SE DEBE PRESTAR.

Now, if the person is to return the money or items it has to be in a basquet with candy or/and toys with the saying HERODES, CRUEL E INCLEMENTE, NOS DICE DESDE LA FOSA, QUE CONSIDERA INOCENTE AL QUE PRESTA ALGUNA COSA.
You can also have some fun with this day making up stories of catastrophes or just about anything and have some fun but at the end you must confess and give the basket.

El Magote

Just got back and I will post one of the pics that I took from the Malecon. If I can remember how to do it.... this may take a few tries.

Now I could be wrong, as I have many times before, and yes it might be wishful thinking that this blight has fallen.

But, I thought that last week this was one continous line of buildings.

Should I get the fruit basket ready or not :?:

Early this morning, my maintenance staff (minus their vacationing supervisor) came to my office and with great seriousness reminded me that, during our annual Christmas party, I had promised them a special year-end bonus and extra day off.

Yeah, like I had THAT much eggnog.

I've followed this thread off and on during the day, waiting for the bottom line.

I didn't say anything as 1) nothing credible I could have added from here, 2) didn't want to spoil the fun and 3) can't post from the office anyway.

The staff definitely wants payback as I love to do 4/1 sendups. One year I informed all staff that a strict dress code would henceforth be in effect, high heels, no slacks for female staff, ties and jackets for all male staff, including maintenance, even in August in Yuma. There were howls of protest:lol: Then during the first year of the current unpleasantness in Iraq, I informed all male staff between the ages of 18 and 50 that due to the national emergency, they were all being drafted and should report to YMCAS immediately. Most were not sure what was going on, but at least one guy (not the sharpest knife in the drawer) was really upset with tears in his eyes.

Lord, I apologize...

All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.
