Ferna, you mean that the % of cops implicated in the ballistics tests were so high that they pulled the permits on the entire force?

If this is true.... it would not be surprising.

Yeah gull grab on to anything that will make you feel better...twist it all you want to...you are the one with the problem. Yes the cops a laughable...they are the biggest joke in Baja and I am worried about you...you are starting to sound very frustrated. You should leave Sally out of this. My pot as you say, is very happy...the scumbags have been identified...things may get better. I wonder what is bad, boiling in side you that you cannot see/say something good about that. Let us stop fighting over this...Baja is winning, that has got to make you feel better amigo.

Hook, the story didn't give any linkage as to any particular event led to the removal except that these cops are able to assist the drug people.

Staying with The Sculpin's movie recollection theme in his post, the movie "Traffic" with Michael Douglas and many others bigtime stars comes to mind. Douglas as the HLS leader of the US is fighting drugs crossing the border at TJ and ends up rescuing his daughter from drug use in middle America.

So CaboRon, JZ and others...where are the drugs really going? Into the bodies of local Baja citizens whose misery index is rising everyday through more unemployment or into the average American youth (perhaps even older) who are individually more affluent than an entire family unit in Baja?

Have you heard of meth labs in less populated areas of So. Cal and marijuana growing houses in Irvine and other affluent neighborhoods? They only supplement the bigger demand.

Do you think the drug cartel leaders whose photos are posted at the border are being posted by the US government because the American government wants to help Mexico with a Mexico-only problem?

I'm not suggesting that anyone in the current crime situation in Baja is in any way blameless, but facts require all of us to acknowledge where the buying power for the drugs resides and how the flow of those products affect everyone along the chain.

Also, I am not naive to say, stop the demand and the problems will all be gone. It isn't easy to do that and it would only be an 80% solution, but it is a start.

While many of these posts have dealt with what Baja should do to clean up THEIR problem, perhaps there is that nagging situation in American homes with drug use and if we focus on Baja, we don't have to do anything about what is going on at home.

Sermon over, return to your normal delusions.

The only way i can protest that I'm not happy about the events in Baja Norte is to not spend any of my $ there. Nothing else i can say or do will matter. I am truely sorry these actions by me and others will cause economic hardship to the innocent locals but our families safety comes 1st.

Therefore, I'm going to Morrow Bay area this year instead of baja. I've been meaning to visit the many wonderful places in CA & Oregon for years and now I have a good reason to. Hope the new mexican administration can clean it up enough in the next few years so i can feel safe for family to return.

The Gull: Excellent and Truthful Words!!

howat: It will take more thana a Few years to Clean up TJ and Rosarita!
Just as it will take years for the Drug Culture and the resulting Crime events to be Stopped.

As most know in 1994 Calif and Texas started a Crackdown on Crime especially Drugs. Result; Prisons are Full in Both States!!!

I surely donot know the Answer but it must start with the Parents, they must be able to grow up and be Educated in a different way than the Present/

It may take another 911, Riots in our Streets with Protesters Shot and Killed, such as Kent State, Military doing Law Enforcement, Vigilante Groups, and other Measures,

Baja was a good place to live for many years just as Los Angeles was a Good Place to Live. Times Change sometmes to the Negative.

Who, I ask, Who will make a Stand strong enough to Solve the Drug Problem??
The Internet
The TV
The IPODS

Maybe that our people will finally get Fed Up and take to the Streets.

Arm everybody and there won't be a problem. It's to the point now that we, as expats, have to consider our protection. We can't rely on the police to do that and the war is on, being brought to us.
Tijuana is Iraq or Afghanistan in her problem. They have ignored it too long. It's cancer in it's most violent, aggresive stage.
Mexico gave life to the cartels for a need of money. It would have worked for the country if their needs had been addressed and controlled.
The rest is current news.

Dennis: Well Said.

The United States gave Life to the Cartels by The Demand for Drugs'
Cause and effect.

In 1967 when I arrived in Loreto Baja Sur and for the next 20 years there was very little Crime. Dancing in the Plaza, very few Schools, very few People. very little Drugs if any- Sniffing Glue by two people I knew.
After the Road opened, more people arrived, TV, and then the Internet there was a Great Change.
A young Friend of mine started growing his own DOPE, then a little Later he started selling DOPE. Ended up serving 3 Years for Selling a Pound on the Streets of Loreto.
Girls Clothing became Scimpy, they stopped wearing a cover at Church etc.

The same thing was happening in the States. The "If it feels Good Just Do it" Crowd was gaining Social Acceptance. Drugs and Nudity, Lack of Respect, Mores were changing as Social Enginerring came into being.

What can a Govt. do When a good Number of its People are Happy with that "Way of Life"".?

I do suspect that there will be Armed Conflicts in the States as in Mexico, otherwise "Why are so many trying to Change the Constitution that gave us the Right to Arm ourselves for Protection??

Armed and Ready

I'm willing to bet that, depending on the results of the coming election, there could once more be a round of record-breaking gun purchases to equal the early Clinton years given the fact that a number of the candidates are staunchly anti-gun.

Speaking of which, I realized that worries over the "Gun-Grabbers" had gone mainstream back in 1994 when one of the most mainstream Gun magazines, Guns and Ammo, published an article on Long-Term underground storage for weapons and ammunition.

As a long standing liberal gun grabber and one who believes that most people are basically incapable of handling a firearm correctly (I own 2 rifles and 3 handguns), I really don't think we have much to worry about when it comes to ridding our society of guns. It's kinda like ridding our society of illegal immigrants. The solution sounds real simple but once you think about it, you don't know where to start. Folks, it ain't gonna happen.

As a side note, I find it hilarious when someone responds to the situation in TJ yesterday by saying "but aren't guns illegal in Mexico?" as if that in some way justifies arming every single mexican to the hilt! In an attempt to hijack this thread, what do you think TJ would look like if there were as many guns there as in, say, New York, Chicago, or LA?

I'm at El Gordo's, and I order 2 luenga's, a cabeza and an al pastor. I reach over to get some onions, some guac, and a lime and, CRAP! I spilt some lime juice on the barrel of my S&W 9mm - AGAIN!!!! Now I have tacos in hand, spilling over onto my napkin, and some creepy looking car rolls by full of viscious stares......suddenly, they notice my predicament, see my rather unsightly barrell replete with taco fillings, and burst into laughter.......whew...that was close......another day in TJ......

Whoa there, Cowboy - pull back on those reins!

Typical American illness - Stupid Bravado.

If there is a drug problem in the US that creates the demand for lawless behavior in Baja by Cartels, then the real problem is that the Mexicans aren't armed.

What a brilliant assertion!!!!!

I repeat...all you ugly Americans who have all these simple, clear solutions for our neighbors to the south...you really must be proud by your words and actions.

The Gull:

The Texans are doing a good Job!
Go to amarillonline.com and read about the amount of Drugs caught within a few miles of Amarillo!
Wonder if that DOPE form Calif. was grown in the Cotton Fields of the Central Valley???
Seems as if it has become a Daily "Bust" for the Troopers.

Guns of over 18 Cal. are Illegal for Citizens to have in Baja.
Or has that changed lately??
