Gnukid, things seem to be going a lot smoother here since you took charge. A born leader. I'm gonna u2u my old timey friends on here (those still able to see, type, cogitate) and beg them to go along, have some appropriate humility.

the point is here that there are lots of deferent folks that use and enjoy this forum so some times we need to not be critical of a post that is something the we personally are not interested in because maybe someone else is. sometimes you might even see a misspelled word but it isn't the end of the world and maybe it will even make you feel a little better that you can spell better than some.
Only my attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor, so indicated by the string of rolling eyes & laughing emoticons. Not meant as a personal attack as you took it. My apologies!

I took it the way you intended, I also am a tongue-in-cheek sort of person. to many people on here take things to seriously.;D

Regarding the idea that old folks are smarter than young folks; some people are just as stupid at 65 as they were at 16. And tossing insults back 'n forth doesn't add anything to a debate. Opinions? Politics? :?: Interesting, but nothing to get in an uproar about. Have'nt read or seen any X-rated stuff on this forum.:?: The forum monitor/censor is doing a good job, expect there's more BS/X-rated stuff thrown out than we can imagine.

Gnukid speaks of curmudgeons..I dare say he knows not of what he speaks! I take direct offense and am obstinately outraged! Curmudgeons can do and say ANYTHING to newbies since newbies are not worthy - that is if a curmudgeon actually wished to spend their valuable time in the hopeless endeavor of schooling a newbie. Curmudgeons are not averse to an open and honest dialogue - we just don't want to listen to your drivel! However, sometimes its so bad that we have to stop the whatever vitally important thing we are doing to set the record straight. Frankly sir, you can pee in your own fire. :fire::rolleyes:;)

Whoa there, Cowboy - pull back on those reins!

Sir, I spoke to soon sir, without having given thought to your highness' intelligence, which is beyond my junior comprehension, sir. Thank you sir for allowing us the opportunity to bask in your presence and otherwise learn what we do not not understand and perhaps never shall. We juniors are not worthy except of course he ever-enlightened Sirenita kind sir.

Bowing down,

What does Sirenita have to do with this?

Forgive me, I went from memory in my original post! 4. (In part) "You agree not to post or transmit any unlawful, harmful, threatening, spate abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind, including, but not limited to, any material which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, violate the rights of others, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law." Then, too, there is "Please use common sense" which is a much less defined request.

And count me among those types! But I would be willing to curtail my mouth (fingers) if this place had some clear and simple rules and a zero acceptance policy for violators. To me, there are just a couple:

1) Attack the message, not the messenger. NO personal attacks. Period.

2) Never post anything that you wouldn't be willing to say face to face to the affected parties, in a physical meeting of the group.

Lencho, you were #1 at the top of my mental list when I make the anti-censorship statement! I can't think of a single instance of a post you've made that I felt was offensive or even borderlined stepping over the above Board Rules!! I agree that your rules would be less subject to mis-intrepretation.

I agree. It's really hard to know, but I think Doug has been exceedingly, perhaps overly, tolerant of aggressive behavior here. The acceptance of pretty much "anything goes" in the off-topic sewer grants tacit approval of behavior patterns that in my opinion, should not be tolerated anywhere on the board and it is a bit hard to maintain coherent civility across the site with that there.

Personally, I don't care about off topic, I don't go there. I looked to see what all the references were about & immediately decided that's not an area I want to go or post! That one time was enough to tell me it's not a positive asset to the board...IMHO. I'm in total agreement with you that Doug's much more forgiving of repeat offenders that I would be. I'm more in favor of a 2-strikes, 1-warning & permanent banishment on the second offense! Possibly 3-strikes, yer out! Historically, banishments of 7-30 days haven't been all that successful...IMHO.

That's a difficult and often thankless job which need could be reduced a lot if folks were convinced they have to be civil here or they can't play any more. The way we're set up, it takes a major rampage to get time out...

I totally agree, but Hose A did it for around 2 years. It does take a fair person with a lot of time on their hands! After seeing the direction the tone of the board has been going, do you sincerely feel self-policing is be successful? I agree that there needs to be stronger & permanent enforcement...although it's clear that being banned isn't necessarily all that effective from the recent spate of obvious multiple identities set up by the user-name of the hour individual(s).

Hopefully, Doug might sift through this thread & take away some viable potential solutions.

Jeez louise, obviously Sirenita is the only "junior" who is worthy of the seniors respect here. Lighten up Louie!

Maybe the occasionaly use of smilies might help. I guess you were being sarcastic, could be a low blow also. I still don't get it. (I wasn't the only one!)

Lots of noise and chaff.....

emanating from this site. Mostly boring drivel associated with media hyperbole.

The personal attacks seem to be mostly fueled by a few who resent being "newbies".

Some people need more attention than they get in their everyday lives. It appears this is their vehicle for social interaction regardless of how they they post and how they are received.

I think most of these not-so-happy-about-Baja-these-days types have a very high attrition rate. Hang in there sirs!
