POST OF THE DAY!!!!!!!

Today I will give thanks and reflection to those who have made it possible for us to more fully participate in our economy which allows fantastic indulgences such as foreign travel/retirement, time off for driving to our favorite camping/hiking spots in our nice vehicles, our good food, and so many other things we often take for granted. I salute those in our past who have risked their families' wellbeing and everything else by being fired, blackballed, arrested, and worse in order to allow future generations of the unwashed masses to more fully help in the building of the greatest nation yet and in turn helping it become a stabilizing force for much of the world.

Is there a Taco Stand at Cerritos ?

Or do you pack it in ?

1000 island Lake. Hiked there in the early 90's from over Donohue Pass, coming from T-meadows.

That lake still has the largest average catch of any lake I have fished, including Upper Crabtree, Desolation Lake, Sky-Blue Lake and Wallace Lake. Not necessarily the largest fish but the largest average. All we caught were fish that were 15 inches; nothing larger or smaller. And they were hungry all the time.

Our Labor Day was finalizing our lot designs and reading the boat for it's initial launch in San Carlos. Pretty boring, really.

We got home tonight after two days & nights on Shell Island, then a trip south to Gonzaga Bay and up to Baja Cactus in El Rosario, last night...

We had a beautiful 2 days on the beach and got sooo much sun (after the heavy rain driving to San Felipe Saturday morning), that a day in the A/C Tacoma, dinner at Alfonsina's, and a night at the Baja Cactus in El Rosario would be a perfect way to end the Baja trip for Elizabeth's birthday!

Antonio's staff at Baja Cactus were awesome ... See Baja Angel's reply to Antonio in her birthday thread...

Antonio, that was really awesome my friend! Thank you for making our Baja weekend all that more special!!!

Photos and detailed trip report coming soon!

You should have seen Dern's face when he read your reply as he had no idea I had made the post in the first place!
Thanks for the laugh,

CaboRon, we pack the taco picnic in. Returned today, arrived at Cerritos at 12:30, left at 5:00. The waves were big...high tide. My 10 year old, Cabo Guillermo ripped it.

Want to join us sometime. Let me know via U2U. We go 2-3 times a week. Would love to have to join us.

Not my cup of tea. Should have gone to the east sierras as always. But the best is yet to come. The foliage should start to turn in about 4 weeks and pompano will start a thread about fall colors from his native north dakota. The high country is at it's best in october.

Skipjack -- Here is an update. The sunflowers in Bishop are happening now.

And this is just up the road about 30 minutes.... what you can expect to see in about two or three weeks. Jim

Stimbo,

No fireworks that we saw. We stayed in Lee Vining. Had a GREAT dinner at the Mobile station. Do you know the place? People drive from Tuolome Meadows and Mammoth to eat there.

Nice shots of the Lake. Great to see so much water in it now!

Man these are great photos... but, I am wondering where in Baja they are? LOL, just giving you a hard time... I have some really neat photos of Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell UFO Museum, Petrified Forest, etc... from last March... Just waiting for the Non-Baja Trip Reports Forum, where all of the above pics could be shared without offending the Baja-Only Nomads!:bounce::spingrin:

DOUG... I know it isn't that hard, que pasa?:O

Nice pictures guys. The last one of tufas came out really well didn't it? Good sky and the right lighting. I never did get one of them that I was satisfied with. But I saw plenty of good ones in calendars. The tufas just didn't inspire me somehow. Perhaps at early morning it would be different.

Anyway, I remember the first time I saw mono lake. We got off the highway and I headed for the water. Next thing I know we were sinking knee deep in mud that lined the lakeshore. Every time you pulled out your shoe there would be a foot of mud stuck to the bottom of it. Now they have a visitor center with a nice boardwalk for you.

The gulls feed on brine shrimp in the lake. You can see their heads constantly bobbing into the water as the pick up a few. I decided to look for them underwater on my last trip. Dove in and opened my eyes. It felt like acid on my eyeballs. That water is really salty. Much more so than the ocean.

That's all.

Hey David K -- Yeah, you are right, this post has gone off on a non-Baja tangent. I'm sure it will end soon, but in the meantime, it has been fun reading about and getting to know what other Nomads do when not in Baja. The, "What are you doing for Labor Day weekend?" theme opened the door to a variety of activities. Hang in there... we'll come full circle and get back on topic. I for one, can't wait to load up my truck and cross the Border again. I love the place!

I am all for Nomads ('our Baja family') sharing non Baja trip reports and interesting photos.

But, some would rather Baja Nomads only share Baja trip photos... So, a poll was taken, and the people who liked to see other places too, were the majority...

We are only waiting for Doug to make us a forum so the minority voters don't have to look at non Baja photos if they click on a Nomad Baja Trip Reports or Baja Photos forum. Just trying to be respectful!:light:
