Hi,

These sold quite a while ago.

If you want to be in contact with this builder for another similar one he may have, or for possible other properties, send us a U2U and we will give you his information.

Plenty of places to stay/rent without having to buy a place.... Just ask around and I'm sure something can be worked out.

While expensive daily and weekly rentals are available, we have had no luck finding a long term reasonable rental-- we have friends who would like to rent for probably several months to see if they like it there and they cannot afford the daily and weekly rentals.

If you hear of anything long term, please pass it on. So far we have not been able to find anything.

my thoughts too, Diane. if i could own/share for 5-6k then the weeks over the years would be worth it. otherwise, we're doing what we've always done. which ain't so bad.....

Well, not sure you can get a place as fancy as the camp you set up---you sure set up a nice camp!

Right now the cost of ownership with the extras is still really quite reasonable.

Water----90 pesos a month
Electricity----our VERY highest was under 400 pesos for a month when we were there the whole month, ran a freezer, two refrigerators, two electric water heaters, and a space heater a few times.

Property taxes this year---finally were able to pay them, were $218.00 pesos.

Maintenance being close to the water---continual----even plastic rusts.

That is a real downside to owning a place.

It is one of the reasons we have considered selling, but since we are retired and keeping the place costs us so little, we are beginning to once again explore other areas again and are rethinking the idea of selling.

Just returned from the Sierra Nevada and hope to spend at least 2 months on the Mexico mainland this summer.

But, when you are still working, it is a BIG consideration.

Just a little something out of my heart. Even though it isn't much money to invest, I would not fall prey again to the idea that I have so little to lose. I had so much more heart invested in San Nicolas than I had money, and in the end I should have treasured the experience more, and insured that the location was sustainable; that it wouldn't wash away. I mean by this that I should have spent more money and got out of the arroyo. This old Marine has shed more than a few tears over pictures of the little place we built with our own hands and which we could "walk away from if we had to". We had to. We did. And, the wounds have been far deeper than I'd have imagined. (There is a pain in my heart from the looting too.)

Thank You for such an honest heartfelt post Vagabondo. What a sharp looking little dream house.I had a very similar expierience/loss which ripped my insides out. I regrouped, learned from my mistakes and rebuilt, reorganized and planned better. And now I am enjoying those fruits of my hard fought labor.Sometimes (and more often than we like) life is just not fair. It makes no difference how much money you have or what your specific situation is or where your heart is. Every one has to deal with lifes negative twists. If you really to want bad enough, you can easily rebuild something simmilar again out of the flood zone. In 1985 we met a man in San Nicholas named Clemente, a fisherman. We thought he might have been a large land owner there. A gem of a man. He was building a road with a pick and shovel out to Punta Pulpito by hand. He was very good to us (another long story). Is he still there? Good luck. ++C++

Thanks all, sorry that was before my time. We didn't get to San Nic until '93.

A nice piece of "wheel estate" is an excellent compromise. Just don't get too elaborate and for Baja keep it dirt roadable.

Two Questions:

Are those 'Pila towers' shown in original post considered sturdy??

What is a Tinaco?

Thanks
