Mine are low but I have seen some stored very high, kind of like my tinaco on the roof of my garage.
I am very interested to hear of your trip, especially the palm frond purchasing which I may be doing myself soon. |
we saw beach bob doing a loop in our neck of the woods, assuming he was checking everything out. we will make a run out to your place today. i´m sure
everything is fine. The media makes such a big deal out of nada. It was big, but not here.
No palm frond deal went down this summer, still living under shade cloth. too much other stuff to account for...

Anyone at Gecko?
Not worried about our rig per se, but am a little anxious about the concrete pillars that support our giant palapa.
Would appreciate any eyeballing that anyone can do - no rush.
We're the big 5th wheel/palapa behind Dorothy's place
Sounds like Bahia escaped mostly unscathed - congratulations!
...and thanks Paulina......

Larry, we will check it again when we get back out to camp. btw, donny lost his garage, cars, and his dog tequila to a fire last week. its been a heck
of a summer down here. his house was saved due to the winds blowing to the south.

I just received an email from my friend Lane McDonald at the Vermillion Sea Field Station in BOLA, and he said everything was ok. He was curious as to
how I knew about the earthquake so quickly. It is a small world.

I doubt that it fell down, but just curious if it moved any more. When we left in July the gap at the top of the wall was about 6". I'm talking about
the wall that is closest to their house and looking at it from Phyllis's house side. They're on a trip in Alaska right now so not sure if they have
even heard about the quake. Save an autograph for me and Lois.

ground motion is sometimes quite variable and depends on the geology beneath your location. seismic wave travel depends on grain size of sediments,
rock type, geometry of geologic units, distance, and a number of other factors. basicly, waves travel differently in rocks, fine grain sediment,
coarse grain sediment, etc. so you may experience seemingly low acceleration/motion in one location, and things may be more severe a few miles away.
btw, all other things being equal, "motion," as you refer to it, increases as you move toward epicenter.

Funny, Fox 11 news called our Stateside office and wanted to know if our resort was still standing. The owners called here panicked. Just shows how
out of touch the news media is. And yes we are still standing ,I didn't feel a thing,k

I think your are referring to Rosarito, that is where you turn off to San Borja from Mex 1.
I found a "santa Isabel" on a topo map I have here and it is at 28-18N and 113-25W.
No idea why they would use that as a referrence point.

Where is Santa Isabel they are referring to? Never heard of it.
Felt nothing over here in San Carlos. |
Hook,
It is the town at the west access to San Borja from Mex 1, between BOLA turnoff and Jesus Maria.
Speaking of Mission San Borja, I hope it didn't sustain any damage!

Would it be too much to ask for the Peninsula to break of from Mexico so we can declare independance?

Not my intention to dish out humble pie, just trying to figure out why or how the media could come up with something so obscure to use as a referrence
point. But in the great scheme of things probably not to big a deal.

Paulina: Send me a report on my place if you can - I'm coming down on the 11th and will bring anything I need to repair. Planned on putting on a new
roof so maybe trearing off the old one won't take so much time now??

USGS produces automated EQ reports that provide magnitude/tme of event and distance to nearby towns. It's all about what is in database in the
'puter. News reports just repeat what is in automated EQ report from a 'puter. If you don't like the report, don't blame media, blame the
government??

No Tsunami in Washington State ?
Boy, that's a relief.
I have a sister who lives next to the water up there.
But, since that water is a river at the Eastern end, there probably wasn't a danger, anyway. And, there isn't a Harbor, hence no Harbor Waves.
While I'm certainly no expert on Tidal Waves, what I've read makes it seem unlikely that one "could" be generated in such a shallow body of water. At
least, one that was noticeable, since the real thing is dependent on the vertical displacement of a large volume of water.

Jesse, Tectonic Drift Will Accomplish Your Wish
If we can hang around long enough, Baja will become the much fabled island of Califia.
Sadly, I don't know where the seven cities of gold are located.
