Given the corrupt nature of Mexico's law enforcement I am quite confident that 'drug tourists' will not be afforded this leniency. However, I will vocally support and promote it in fervent hope that it will lead to further misery and incarceration for the casual/recreational user.

Actually, I will vocally support the relaxing of rules regarding the relatively benign marijuana, and I would support criminalization of the sale and consumption of unhealthy, high-fat food products. Anybody poisoning their own or somebody else' health via the same drug that killed Jerry Garcia, Chris Farley, John Candy should be strung up. In addition to some of these famous, sensational examples, high fat foods are slowly toxifying the American public as a whole and creating a culture that fattens the young. By 2018, 43% of our society is predicted to be clinically obese. Forget the weed, forget the imagined dangers, let's hang the pusher of triple patty hamburgers. I'll be the first the vote for such a law. I'll be the first to pull the lever on the gallows.

Three fingers....that's a good count, my friend;D

On second thought, maybe not....it's probably that Mexican sh!t....mostly stems and seeds...

It's really quite easy to carry personal stash into Mexico....just not a good idea to burn the evidence "publicly"....same as back home.

As many on this forum demonstrate, having a puff is frequently looked down upon....use good judgement if holding.....military checkpoint dogs don't seem to be attracted to the scent....US customs pooches are most likely to get a nose on it.

Please disregard the other posters.

I'd bring a kilo. I have friends who work at the border who can guarantee a free pass. Just tell me when you plan to cross, give a description of your vehicle with plate number and I'll pass it along.

BTW, What's 420?

You're a surfer, right? ;D
And don't forget to offer a toke to those nice young men at the checkpoints, they get mighty bored standing around out there in the desert.

"lids"
freaking hilarious. "let's score a lid"...."my mom found my lid"...."how much for a lid?"......
yes when i was in HS and at the U in the late 60s thru 70s "lids" were sold for about $10 each, rising to $20 for some good "red bud".:lol:
hell - students had no money - sell for what the market will bear.
Now a 1/4 ounce of good herb supurb can be a hundred so i'm told.....:saint:

Welcome to the Baja Nomad forums. Don't mind the strong umm welcome from some of the others. It's been a slow week here and the Nomads haven't had anybody to attack since David K hasn't said anything that they perceive as insensitive/attacking/incorrect/ignorant for at least a few days.

In case you're a little bit high and confused by the witty Nomad banter/attacks, DO NOT bring drugs across the border!

If I had a Pacifico for every time a Cabo beach/marina jewelry vendor tried to sell me pot (and etc) during my 2 week visit in 2007 I would still have some Pacificos left today. Although I don't have my ultra-long 'heepee' hair anymore :)

Well, here is a piece on one of their leaders in times past. Notice that the calendar has advanced but the profile could very well fit today. Sound familiar????

Temperance Movement Groups and Leaders in the U.S.
by David J. Hanson, Ph.D.

Cannon, Jr. , Bishop James
After the death of powerful Anti-Saloon League leader Wayne Wheeler in 1927, Bishop James Cannon, Jr., chairman of the Methodist Board of Temperance, Prohibition, and Public Morals, emerged as the most powerful leader of the temperance movement in the United States. Journalist H. L. Mencken said of Cannon that "Congress was his troop of Boy Scouts and Presidents trembled whenever his name was mentioned."

Cannon hated Catholicism almost as much as alcohol and called it “The mother of ignorance, superstition, intolerance, and sin.” During the presidential campaign between Catholic Al Smith and Protestant Herbert Hoover, Cannon “launched extremely personal attacks on Smith that shocked even many seasoned political observers.”

Cannon also used blatant bigotry. He told voters that Smith wanted

…the Italians, the Sicilians, the Poles, and Russian Jews. That kind has given us a stomach ache. We have been unable to assimilate such people in our national life, so we shut the door on them. But Smith says ‘give me that kind of people.’ He wants the kind of dirty people you find today on the sidewalks of New York.

However Bishop Cannon's short-lived power came to an end when he was forced to defend himself before a Senate committee against charges of financial irregularities as a lobbyist, before the General Conference of the Methodist Church on charges of immoral conduct, and before a federal grand jury on charges of conspiring to violate the Federal Corrupt Practices Act.

Cannon's highly profitable stock speculations on margin with a corrupt securities firm, his hoarding of flour during World War I that was sold at a great profit, and his sexual affair with his secretary long before his wife's death all destroyed the reputation and influence of this once powerful dry leader. The expose was one of many factors contributing to the repeal of prohibition because “the drys were thoroughly discredited by Cannon’s conduct of his personal and financial affairs. Opponents of Prohibition had long argued that many prohibitionists were hypocrites and “the opprobrium he earned for himself was transferred to the whole prohibition movement.”

One biographer described Cannon as an unpleasant and deceitful person. Although he “loved power and prestige, profit and pleasure,“ Cannon was a distant and aloof individual. One Anti-saloon League colleague described him as “cold as a snake” and another, with whom he has worked closely for forty years, reported having never seen him laugh and rarely smile.

"Of course few here will actually read any of the links or do a search for themselves on "Mexico Calderon Drug Decriminalization and instead argue that marijuana is not addictive which is well known so how can those in posession say they are addicts"- gnukid

Got nothing to add, except if certain well-informed and well-read people would get the heck off of their soapbox and stop acting like they are superior, and act out by insulting folks who want to be your friend,we would all have a better time of it. Oops! I didn't keep it anonymous!

I'm not saying that I encourage smoking and driving but I'll look at some studies:

"In driving simulator tests, Cannabis impairment is typically manifested by subjects decreasing their driving speed and requiring greater time to respond to emergency situations. Nevertheless, this impairment does not appear to play a significant role in on-road traffic accidents."

"Cannabis leads to a more cautious style of driving, [but] it has a negative impact on decision time and trajectory. [However,] this in itself does not mean that drivers under the influence of cannabis represent a traffic safety risk. Cannabis alone, particularly in low doses, has little effect on the skills involved in automobile driving."
