Jay was also a good friend to my aunt who also passed a couple of years ago.

My wife and kids have nothing but good memories of Jay he was a good friend and all around good person.
He did not deserve to go that way.
I hope the people that caused his death will be punished for their doings.
he lived in Rosarito because he loved the people and was close to the beach which you can see from the house and walk to it. |
Hello R8A. Welcome to Baja Nomads and thank you for what must have been a difficult post during your time of loss. All ex-pats feel deeply about the
safety and quality of life we enjoy in Rosarito. Those of us who live near Jay know him exactly as you have described. I didn't know Jay well- just
as a friendly neighbor who always had a smile and would pull his little red car over to chat we me for a few moments. This horrible crime deeply
effects us all. I understand four of Jay's "friends" were arrested for his murder. That makes it all the more horrible.
Dennis asked about Jay's nationality likely because we all want to make sure Mexico reports crimes against US Citizens accurately. He means no
disrespect. Understanding this crime and following it through to the prosecution of Jay's murderers is important to all of us living here. The truth
is always important and leads to understanding. We knew Jay as a Puerto Rican who worked for the phone company stateside. The police have reported
he was "South American", and then Nicaraguan. It is also very unusual the four murderers were not paraded in front of media cameras- which is the
standard protocol down here for every criminal apprehended. It makes the people think the police are effective. In Jay's murder, to me it seems like
they are keeping his murder "under the radar" by intent. Tourism is vital to Rosarito and we understand the pressure police feel to make crimes
against Americans go away and I want to make sure Jay's death is properly recorder and not covered-up. That would be an insult to his death. Thanks
again your post and please accept my personal condolences.

I just wanted to let you all know that Jay was a beautiful loving person and we who loved him are very studded and in shock of his murder. Jay opened
his home to many of us and we all loved going to Rosarito to visit with him. He was part of our family and will always be a great part of our
memories. He looked out for my sister-in-law when she moved to Baja and was her confidant. Jay would always call her “Ama”, meaning mother. He was
like her adopted son. Jay always looked out her home when she passed and would keep her family informed of what was going on. I have many happy and
wonderful memories of Jay and the times we spent with him partying, having BBQ’s, going to Ensenada, going to TJ, and just the good old times at
Coco’s. Jay loved his dog and I hope someone will take good care of him and give him a happy home. I remember clearly about 2 years ago we went down
to Rosarito on a Harley Run and when we drove up to Jay’s with 4 other motorcycles and Jay did not turn us away. We all stood at his home and he was
so happy to have us there. Jay was one of those people who is loved. I will miss you dearly. God bless you and rest in peace.
Love,
Amanda and family

Yeah, Dennis, and while you are at it, lay off Rosarito! It is a fine place to live as long as you mind your p's and q's, like every other place.

http://www.rosaritoenlanoticia.info/2010/12/caen-asesinos-su...

Fulano has a bog entry today:
***********.blogspot.com/2010/12/death-in-rosarito-of-jay-alvarez.html
We recognize the guy in the left photo as the man who was often in Jay's yard washing his cars. The actual murderer is a dirtbag from our area as
well. So, Rosarito has a "list of known homosexuals" they interviewed to gather these leads? I wonder how that list came to be formalized?
RIP Jay Alvarez. Now we know the truth about your untimely death. Gay or Straight it is often a spurned lover who commits these horrible crimes of
passion. 1000 pesos for a human life is just sick.

It adds to one's personal level of security when "Murder For Hire" has an exorbitant price tag, but when the price drops to pocket change, it gives an
uncomfortable, vulnerable feeling, like...even the paper boy could afford to have someone killed.
