Been visiting this site for years, but this discussion has me both worried and a little intrigued. I personally encounter right-wing loonies daily, and they never fail to amaze me in their notions. But, the statement

“Dr. Chugle of Modesto told me after the operation that he had just put 20 years on my life!”

seems particularly bizarre. I work in a post-cardiac surgery unit and I could never imagine a surgeon making such a statement. I don’t doubt the surgery, I doubt the writer’s validity.

I don't doubt a doctor telling Skeet about adding years to his life. I have heard doctors say similar things before. Now, maybe some of that is tongue in cheek conversation, however that does not stop them saying it. I believe some of this is as encouragement after operations to get the patient to try harder to stay healthy. Only the MAN upstairs knows how much time we have to the second! So, I hope Skeet gets those 20 years, as I hope I get them too,LOL!! Take Care & Travel Safe "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN," bajafun777

Bajafun,

I am only familiar with a dozen or so cardiac surgeons, your experience may be different, but I have never heard anything approaching the continuation of life promoted by a surgeon. The comment struck me as strange as the surgeons I have met would never do that. They will tell you the exact opposite, if they decide to talk at all. Personal doctors are a very different breed; internists promote false hope in order to raise spirits, which occurs every day.

Troy: I was as surpised as you when the Doctor made that statement to me.

I do salomely and sincerely swear that he said those words to me at the Memorial Hospital following my Operation. My wife was also there at the time.

You seem to be saying that you know Doctors better than anyone .

Your use of the "Right Wing Loonies" tells the whole story/ Anyone who thinks Right Wingers are Loonie are just too Weak-Minded to know the difference.

Skeet....You continue to be the master of diverting the story line. You just ride it around like a little, rudderless boat.

Keep up the fine work. Glad to hear we have twenty more years of it to enjoy.

Hell....all we need is chrisx and goat666 here. What a great group these three idiots would make.

All three with their diverting bullcrapola nonsense. I'd rather come here and get back to reading about Baja.

I out for a while.

Had a quad-by-pass a year and a half ago and the Doc told me he just gave me 10 years more, six months later I had two stents installed and one month ago stent number three, about that ten I have my doubts, just thought I would add my 2 cents.

Shocking that a surgeon would say those things. Guess I work with a more conservative group. I know that none of the doc's I work with would make such statements, but, I guess there are docs out there willing to go out on a limb!

yeah, guess the doc could have said.. .Hell, your lucky to be alive and if ya make it another year you'd be doing great...

Good there are some with a decent bed side manner still, and not SO worried about "liability".. rather the patient's mental outlook on his life ...

Go for twenty, we all know its over when its over... and no one really has control over that ....... unless they are pulling the "plug"... after all liability issues have been resolved for the physician and/or Hospital... please

I would imagine a lot of docs say a lot of things privately that they wouldn't say in public. I mean, they are there to make you feel good.

That's pretty much just what Wiley said right above. I have to learn to read before I write.
