A stop sign has a little placard mounted below it with the word "TOTAL" This means a cop is probably nearby and a gringo car better grow cobwebs
before proceeding.
RED LIGHT Look both ways before running it
GREEN LIGHT Speed Limit minimum 50 mph or you'll get rear ended.
AMBER LIGHT Time to red line the tachometer
CURVA PELIGROSA Somebody of note died ignoring a mere curve sign
TOPE A 150 M. Speed bump anywhere from 10 feet to a mile ahead.
DESVIACION Say adios to your new windshield
NO REBASE CON RAYA CONTINUA Elevated risk of head-on collision
CONCEDA CAMBIO SU LUCES Means the left beam dims, the right beam goes bright
ESTE CAMINO NO ES DE ALTA VELOCIADAD Starting line of Mexican 500
SI TOMA NO MANAJE If you drink don't get caught
A Lot To See And A Lot To Do

YKYIB when the journey is almost as fun as the fishing when you get there.
Welcome back Dennis, although we have never actually met I feel I know you (and many of the other characters here). Haven't met a nomad I hven't
liked! May your road to recovery be rapid!

You know you're in Baja when you're at the horse races in Bahia Asuncion and the ice cream vendor rolls by selling ice cream to the kids and cervezas
to the adults.

Was looking at some "old" posts here by "Oso". Oso's comments seemed to provide humor with some of the most down-to-earth common sense, especially
for travelers to Baja California. He coined the phrase "pizza insurance" in a May 2005 post here. The above post was his last one here, and is
consistent with some humor I've used at times over the years to describe travel to Baja.
I'm purposely bumping this thread to see if there are more thoughts/comments on "You know you're in Baja when..." today.
For those curious about Pizza Insurance, it's here:

You know when you are in Baja when; You can exchange your dollars for pesos at the gas station, but not at the bank!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

You know you are in Baja and think you are in the middle of nowhere....enjoying whatever you are enjoying....and a local walks by....with a rope in
his hand...
Don't believe everything you think....

...you hear the squeaking, rattling propane gas truck slowly cruising down the cobblestone calle and the loud shill
voice..."gaaahhhsss...gaaahhhsss..." Getting ever so distant...unless of course you need some.

You know you're in Baja
when you can park at the beach,
when you can throw a football at the beach,
when you can play frisbee at the beach,
when you can have a campfire on the beach,
when you can have your dog on the beach,
when you can drink a beer on the beach,
when you can launch your boat from the beach,
when you can pitch a tent and sleep on the beach,
and when you can do all the other things at the beach that will get you busted in Southern California
That's what I like best about Baja, I'm a let's live at, and have fun on, the beach guy.
