FREE BURGER & BEER - COYOTE BAY

If you can catch me right after I win at Monday or Thursday or Saturday poker...hit me up for a free burger and beer.

Beans are optional and entirely at your own risk. Anyone eating these beans will be asked to leave within 15 minutes.

Okay. We are moving further south....to dowtown San Jose del Cabo..for STEAKS !..among other things.

El Vaquero is a brainchild of the folks who own the Tropicana Inn. Personally, I thought their food was a bit pricey. If I recall, their house cut prime rib is like $50, and sides are ala carte. Trying to "out Ruth's Chris" Ruth's Chris, I guess. And, I have always enjoyed meals at the Tropicana that cost just a few pesos less.

Actually, Bajahowodd...the brainchild and owner of the Vaquero is a very good friend of mine. I helped him pick out some saddles and other decor for the steakhouse-restaurant. The Tropicana owner is indeed a partner, though. The food here is quite fine...and finely served. A typical meal would have usually run about $90USD, but mi compadre tells me changes are coming to broaden thier customer base. The times are what they are....

MAS CAFES

Here is another of my favorite cafes..of which I have many up and down Baja. So many cafes..so little time.

In quick succession, here are two more favorites in the Mulege area:

BERTHAS AT BURROS BEACH

Conveniently located on the beach in Conception Bay. :tumble:

Currently managed by cheery and delightful Celia, who has specials going every Wednesday. Good old time beach cafe formerly run by Bertha herself for many, many years.

very pleasant atmosphere..seating inside or outside

Great breakfasts...here is my usual huevos rancheros.

Try Bertha's...and say Hi to Celia and the crew.

ANOTHER CAFE...EL CANDIL - NEAR MULEGE SQUARE

An old friend of mine, Matt (Mateo) devoted money and time to restore this old restuarant into the decor it shows today. Before Matt poured his help into this place it was showing severe signs of wear and tear. Matt has passed from the scene now, but his memory lingers on in the style and charm shown in the bartops, ceilings, wall frescos, and atrium seating. Rest in peace with Cher, Mateo.

Now Scotty is renting the El Candil and is doing a magnificent job of presenting good meals at an affordable price. I get a lot of to-go orders from Scotty..because I love this food!

Killer Burgers!

.............................................................................................

BACK TO THE BEACH!!

No road trip down Baja would be complete without a stop/snack/dinner/cold beer or margarita at..

ANA'S CAFE - SANTISPAC BEACH

It's simple..the place rocks.

The old bartender

The bar now has draft beer! Two kinds even..

Harmless & Happy patrons...mostly.

Dang good grub on the beach...cannot be beat.

Lots of barbeques happening on Saturday nights..with music by Bob..dance your legs off!.

Art classes even. Join and brush up on your style.

All in all, a fun and happening place on the beach in Baja. What more could you want?

If you see me there, the first beers on me.

I looked inside, and it sure is purty! Is your friend from NOB?
I knew the Tropicana Guy was involved. Just didn't know it was someone else's idea. BTW, the building in which Vaquero is located has quite a history.

The photos must come from another web site to post multiples... Many of us use the free photo hosting site Photobucket.com This code: (without spaces... the photo url starts with http:// and usually ends in .jpg) is how to show a photo or several photos on any forum.

Here's my easy to use methods:

A review of three methods from an older thread... for the new Nomads or the PC challenged Nomads... Note: there are many methods, and I suggest you go to the older thread where 'everyone' provided their favorite... the following are MY prefered methods, and I want to keep it as easy as possible to help folks who are photo posting challenged.

A) ADDING A PHOTO THAT IS IN YOUR PC PICTURES FOLDER:

A photo that is in your computer file can be displayed on Nomad pages in certain forums where it is allowed...

The photo's file size must be BELOW 50 kbs to post here. Open your photo file ('My Pictures' or ?) find the photo you want to share and move your mouse arrow onto the photo thumbnail... a pop up will tell you how big it is in kbs or mbs (1000 kb=1 mb).

TO POST A PHOTO:

Simply click the button labled 'Browse' just below where you type a message, and your pc will pop up a window of your photo files... simply click on the photo you wish to post (if it is under 50 kbs). The post must have a subject or some text with the photo to post.

IF your photo is over 50 kbs, then here is one method to reduce the size, and make it a duplicate (so the original full size photo is preserved). I thank Neal Johns for showing me.

(If the photo you want to post is already on another web site, then you may 'hot link' it to Nomad, and the size doesn't matter... unless it isn't too big and distorts the screen. Hot linking will be described below.)

PHOTOS IN YOUR PC OVER 50 KB, click on each step:

If 'paint' isn't on your deck top, do this (click on):

a) Start

b) All Programs

c) Accesories
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Paint (start here if 'paint' is on your desk top)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) File

3) Open...

3a) then click on the photo to get reduced (double click).

4) Image

5) Stretch/Skew... then change the % down from 100 in both boxes in sketch to a lesser number.... (if over 700 kb try 25%, if 400 kb try 35%, if 120 kb try 70%, if 60 kb try 90%)

Continue to Click on:

6) OK

7) File

8) Save As

8a) now type in a new name for the reduced photo or add -r to it to indicate it is the 'reduced' one... this is a copy so you don't mess with the original.

9) Save

THAT'S IT!

Now, click on file and open again, move your mouse arrow over the reduced photo and see if it is between 25 and 50 kb.

When you move the mouse over the reduced photo in the files, the kb size will show and let you know if you didn't get it low enough, or too low! In either case, repeat the steps above... working with the original, large photo.

After you do a couple it gets pretty easy.

=====================================================

B) HOT LINKING FROM ANOTHER WEBSITE:

If the photo you want to show on Nomad is already on another web site, and it is your photo or you have permission to use it, then get the url of the photo... and click on
which is right above where you type a message. A pop up will give you a place to paste the url of the photo.

To get the url (begins with http:// ), move your mouse over that photo and right click on it, then left click 'properties' in the new pop up. Copy the address/ url with your mouse to paste on Nomad in

Here is a hot link from my web site:

If you have your photos on a photo album web site, there may be a direct link option that will have the html tags ([img]) already included... see Photobucket.com instructions below...

======================================================

C) PHOTOBUCKET.COM

Photos can be copied onto your (free) photobucket.com album from your PC files... just pre select the size reduction setting as 15" screen or smaller... not 17" and not 1 mg. so the Nomad board doesn't get streched wide requiring awkward right scrolling to read messages.

To show any photos on Nomad, put your mouse on your photobucket photo, and a drop down menu will appear with these four choices and a url or 'code' next to each... for that photo:

Email & IM
Direct Link
HTML Code
IMG Code

Copy the last one (IMG Code), and paste that right on the Nomad page where you type a message... where ever you want the photo to appear in your thread.

===================================================

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!:light:

Yes, it's quite a palace. I wrote about the place and mi amigo a while back. He is Mexican/Swiss and a fine fellow, plus he married well, as the saying goes. One of the old-fashioned kind and like me, he loves history. Sadly, about an hour ago he told me that the place may be closing soon. Business is slow for a top end eatery in this depression/recession or whatever you choose to call the present times. May reopen in better days ahead. My friend is not even close to being a quitter. He knows how to make lemonade from lemons.

Here's my old thread about the El Vaquero. Hope it does not make you too hungry for a great steak.

Thanks for the link. It was posted "before my time" so to speak. As someone who has frequently visited Cabo for decades, and who has friends who have tried and failed to have successful restaurant businesses, I've determined a few of the risk problems as well as the successes. Back in the day, the legacy hotels, Solmar, Finesterra, Hacienda, Cabo San Lucas, usually had a single on site restaurant. Over the past decade or so, there has been a trend toward mega-resorts. Such resorts usually contain multiple restaurants. When folks vacation for short periods, like three or four nights, they can often eat at a separate on-site restaurant, never having to leave their home property. A more recent development is the all-inclusive resort. Quite possibly the biggest draw is "all you can drink". But the food is plentiful, and once again, folks don't necessarily leave the property. You can probably blame the Taxi unions, as well, as rates are ridiculous. I remember the day when we maybe had breakfast at our hotel. There were just so many diverse and interesting places to discover out and about. Just a few doors up from your friends place is Damiana. To me, it's an iconic restaurant. Last I heard, they were at least closed for the summer. But, I really don't know if they have reopened. I do wish your friends the very best.
