A lot of people are the opposite, IMHO. Passive in person but post vigorously on Blogs like this and the net to vent and get it all out. Like Jesse
kind of said, you can post and disagree with people just don't make a sport of it and call them out by name.
I do think the board looses something if members have to think twice about hitting delete, before they send a post.
I don't think individual posts are tracked by your ISP (computer of origin)- so let's just assume we ALL post from the USA all the time and keep our
discussion here open-minded without fear of threats and intimidation. Peace, love, fish tacos.

When I look at the United States political figures and our Courts .. I find it very hard to be critical of ANYTHING which occurs here in Mexico..
The reported events pail in comparison to the level of: corruption, greed and just plain lying which occurs north of the border....
Fear, threats and intimidation.. think Woooosh as the corner on that market, and to me stands out as to how dangerous it is, really living here in
Mexico and expressing ones self, in front of God and County (and it's Mexico that I'm referring too)
Seems he has some real time examples of direct interface with the enforcement agency's, court system, and the local politics.
A real life no BS about living in Mexico.. and being actively involved in local issues.. and everyone knows where he lives too... I'm sure a folder is
kept on him .... but, that is true up north too...
Thanks

BajaGringo is indeed a stand-up guy. 100%. |
I agree wholeheartedly Wooosh. Just look at the contributions BG has made to this board.

Man, I take a few days off to travel (picked up a new pup) and I miss out on all the action.
Now I'm an America hater? I suppose I voluntarily served in the military defending a country I hate? I just don't particularly like the direction the
USA has taken the past few decades in some regards. I suppose anybody who doesn't share your views is an America hater???
As far as being an American hater - I don't hate anybody. There are a few trolls on here solely to stir the pot and I probably won't invite them to
our next beach BBQ.
And thanks to my friends here for their posted support and messages. Now let me start another thread on something more important - I want to show off
the additions to our family...

Thanks Wesson. Yes, I have been through a lot. Even so- there is no place I would rather live than Mexico. Perhaps I would have chosen a different
spot in Baja than Rosarito Beach, but it wasn't up to me. I built and gave the house to my Mexican family who are long-time Rosarito/TJ residents-
it's not even mine. The love I have for my family and them for me makes it all worth it. I will try harder to work through them, but they area
always right there with me through the good, bad and ugly.
As bad as the real experiences I shared with you privately were- everyday Mexicans go through the exact same thing. They have learned not to speak
out of fear of reprisals. I'm learning that much more slowly unfortunately, but I am learning things won't change in my lifetime- so I find something
small, but positive every day: Pick up trash on the beach, leave some food kibble and fresh water out for a friendly but abandoned dog, give some
pesos to a lady with a sick child, make a sandwich for someone who is hungry... whatever it takes.
My Mexican family laughs and tells me I don't spend any money- I just give it away. That's OK. I sleep well and the $4.99 used clothes I buy for
myself on e-bay are good enough for me.
Viva Mexico!

You mean to say you haven't discovered the Segundas? If there arn't already a million of them in Rosarito, you should make a day trip down here to
do some shopping.

oh yeah. And the Sunday swap meets. The family goes on nice days and, well you know- everything you could want to buy or throw away again is there.
Sometimes I make a game of it and stake out Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirts with a $2.99 limit.
As a boy in CT my parents went "antiquing" and to auctions every weekend- so that habit is hard to give up. I may find something down here valuable
some day a gringo brought and discarded as junk- who knows? I like nice things- I'm just not willing to pay full price for them. I love the search
for bargains (and I went to catholic school- so no jokes...).
Any other cheap-skates like me out there?

My thing at the Segundas is Hawaiian shirts in general. Well, it used to be anyway. I was getting them for 20 Ps each. I finally had to quit buying
them when I took inventory and had over 150. Still have most of them since I'll wear a shirt 'till you can see through it. I still keep an eye out
for Reyn Spooners. The price has gone up to 30Ps. Not bad for a 75 dollar shirt like new.

150? That's too funny. Yeah- maybe I should up my standards, but wouldn't want to compete with you. It is amazing how many "like new" shirts are
out there for cheap. LOL

Mmmm, I'm here legally. Or are you saying that I'm not allowed to comment on the news like everyone else does here? That comes across more as a
threat than a friendly advice. |
I am saying you been here for about a year, you don't know how things run around here, and you obviously don't know that it is ilegal for a non
Mexican citizen to get involved in domestic politics.
I personally don't care if you do or not get into trouble, but your leaving yourself exposed to others.
remember you got kicked out from la paz group for the same thing. |
Jesse,
This must mean our friendly blogger in SADM is a Mexican Citizen? If not how does she get away with her blogg?

I have never in my life heard of anybody being expelled for voicing an opinion. I'm sure it can be done, but I've never heard that it has been done.
I think the Expat community has pretty much terrorized itself with this issue.
Jeeeezo.....We arn't exactly the William Walker Fan Club. All we want to do is discuss the world we live in.

Dennis,
You mean we are talking about another Mexican Myth?
I've heard that newpaper reporters can have a harm time though, and they are nationals.

Cotton is best, for sure. I used to wonder what people in Bangladesh did when they weren't busy starving. They make Hawaiian shirts. I guess they
have a big garment industry.
Anyway, Hilo Hattie and Reyn Spooner. My favorites.

No. No myth at all. I'm sure there's a basis in fact. If someone were to be in the local park, standing on a soapbox and talking the overthrow of
the government, he would do well to have his bags packed.
On the other hand, discussing politics in public can't be offensive to any democratic government. You just can't openly trash anybody. You never
know who could call in a marker and have you removed. It doesn't take much in a country where it's not what you know, it's who you know.
Journalists take a known, calculated risk.
