That just about sums it up. I dont think any right minded person could improve on Mark Twain's statement.

As one gets older, it seems that one loses the skill of spelling things correctly, even if the vocabulary gets better with age...speaking for myself
that is.
Having said that, the most important thing is to have something valid and worthwhile to say, even if your grammar and spelling are substandard. Mark
Twain and Will Rogers are evidence of that.
A while back, Mr BillM made a comment on my mispelling something and I thought he was way off. But, since then, I started watching my spelling more
closely and doing some spell checking and what that has shown me is that my spelling, overall, is approaching being atrocious...and it's getting
worse. Even writing this post, I had to check the spelling on three different words.
The use of proper grammar and spelling is respect for and a courtesy to the reader, but it is still more important to write something of value. That
way you are, at least, not wasting the readers' time which shows more respect than the mere use of proper grammar and good spelling only.
[Edited on 3-7-2013 by MitchMan] |
Well said, however I feel I need to add one more thing. The process of checking for proper grammar and spelling forces the writer to re-read their
work and consider if the words used adequately convey the writers thoughts. To not do this I feel is intellectually lazy. If someone does not have the
time to proof their own words, they certainly do not have the time to understand yours. To quote Mark Twain again:
“I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.”
Whoa there, Cowboy - pull back on those reins!

That is a good one and even though I disagree with one of your posts, you properly used the quote box. Thus, you gave credit to the author of the
opinions expressed.
Often spell check does not help. Their are times win one can pull out there hare while trying two reed advise from others.

Anybody who uses the work "malapropism" and knows what it means is head and shoulders above my larn'ing------a quick trip to the dictionary got me
going again, but for a second there I was awe-struck!!!!
Math is my REAL downfall, too, so I know what you mean.

Now that 'Ol Sr. Hugo is dead we can be a bit irreverend , can't we?...with the humor, the spelling, the punctuation and the grammar. You all get a
pass. Hugo's magnanimity would have allowed it. Pasales!

Tony, personally I am very uncomfortable with all this spelling and punctuation talk--------I much prefer bad-mouthing Hugo-----can't we just stick to
THAT?

But, if I slip in a counter-comment, the 'party of openness and acceptance' has a conniption fit !! Sorry, but there is just so much lack of facts and

It would be great if it was just Baja related subjects here... and I think I give more than a lot of Baja on Nomad. But, as long as the other

I prefer to discuss Baja travel and history. I am not sure why 'Hugo Chavez' is even on the Baja News forum at Nomad, dead or alive?

Then why are you SO compelled to slam "Liberals" on this forum?
Why do you make it political?
Why are you better than OFF-TOPIC?

Had not heard that quote before but I agree with it very much. Most people who write a lot have little to say. It takes thought and effort to write
something with content.

I was just wondering....if Chavez was still alive and looked at DK's political ideology....what would he have to say about DK dying?

No, nor have I been to Hell... so does that mean I can't say it is a bad place without going? Just discussing, that's all.
fwiw: I think Udo knows that country (Venezuela) better than all of us?

Really Ged? Am I THAT influential? Really?
Maybe I should do more to promote freedom and personal rights... because that is my cause. A government so big (as ours has become) can not see the
'little guy' who becomes squished beneath this Goliath's feet.

Really David? Again I would love to body slam your lame ass argument but this is not OFF-TOPIC. I don't understand how you get away with your right
wing propaganda crap. "Little guy"? What a freaking joke! You're party will fight to make sure Paris Hilton gets huge tax breaks. Somebody has to pay
for Bush's invasion. You got a better idea sir?
