Police officer killed after gunfire attack in San Felipe
Officer Germán Rubio Gaxiola died after receiving multiple bullet shots; authorities investigate the facts
A municipal police officer, identified as Germán Rubio Gaxiola, died early Monday after being shot in San Felipe.
The incident occurred on Sunday night on Estrella Marina Street, where multiple firearm detonations were reported near the "Emmanuel" grocery store.
The assault was reported at 11:09 p.m. by a witness, who called 911 and indicated the officer was injured inside his vehicle.
Surveillance cameras captured the presence of a white Ford Mustang and a white Toyota Celica speeding away from the scene.
Rubio Gaxiola was taken to San Felipe Community Hospital in critical condition by Red Cross paramedics; he had various injuries, including a fractured
jaw and at least ten visible bullet strikes to his body.
However, at 00:05 hours, he was declared dead after a cardiac arrest, while being treated for gunshot wounds.
The site of the attack remained secured while the first investigations were carried out and it was the officer's wife who confirmed her identity.
Regarding these facts, the State Prosecutor General's Office was notified for investigations of the case, without immediately further information
about the aggressors.

Translation of the headline and first paragraph:
San Felipe Citizen Report
COWARDLY ATTACK TAKES LIFE OF OFF-DUTY MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICER
"A Municipal Police Officer who was heading home after finishing his shift was killed by unknown individuals on the night of Sunday, January 5, 2025.
The response of the police in the port was once again ineffective, since up to this moment there is no news of people detained in relation to the
fatal attack."
This is someone posting on Facebook. I haven't yet found a report of this from a recognized news organization.

I'd say that people who are easily fearful should not just not travel south, they should not leave home. . I find it weird that people go out and about in their own hometown up north without fear even if some violent
incident took place there, yet are terrified to go somewhere in Mexico where the same thing took place. |
I try to get a feel for all the variables involved. Myself, I have no desire to go to San Felipe at this time, but if I did, I would be concerned
about not getting caught in the crossfire of what is going on there recently (like the young US tourist who was killed in Mexico City not too many
years ago when she was struck by gunfire intended for someone else). I would also be concerned about not wanting to be a victim of mistaken intension
(like the young US tourist who was murdered in the Copper Canyon a few years ago because the drug people mistakenly thought he was exploring the
possibility of moving into their territory).
If no more murders take place in San Felipe for the next 10 months, the per-capita murder rate there will be 35 per 100,000 / year (I know San Felipe
has a population of only 17,000). Contrast that to Los Angeles, USA, where the per capita murder rate for all of 2023 was 8.4 per 100,000.
There are many more variables involved, but looking at these numbers, and knowing that most murders in Los Angeles, a large city, occur in areas that
I don't frequent, while San Felipe is a comparatively small area, you can see why someone would be more concerned about going about San Felipe than
Los Angeles, even though Los Angeles has many more murders in any given year than does San Felipe.
When it comes to risk management, I don't worry about what other travelers think of me. I follow my own compass, not easily swayed by the opinion of
others.

I drove through San Felipe on Sunday. Lots of cops on the street with two check points. Just a gas stop for me but I would not stay there until
things settle down.

You should study history. Deleting posts isn't part of a N-zi agenda.

Not censorship. The publisher chooses to edit your screeds.
Woke!

Who is the N-zi? The moderator or the poster?
"Youth is wasted on the young" comes to mind.

Dutra, you crack me up!
Are you even capable of explaining why you think that "insult" you toss around, would possibly offend anyone?
Personally, you could call me a "USB cable" and it would evoke the same reaction (the bemused benevolence of an adult towards a bewildered child).

Except it obviously did hurt someone’s feelings. And your post is just a little reminder that “YoUr ToO ToUgH tO hAvE HuRt FeElInGs” and wrote a
response.
Be a a duck and let it roll like water off your back if it “DoEsNt” hurt your feelings.
Unfortunately I think I’m done with this site. Too many ancient güeros around here.

No one said it isn't censorship. (However it has nothing to do with N-zis)
Forum moderators on all online forums I am aware of do sometimes delete posts or censor out profanity, etc.
I don't agree with them censoring out something that would essentially change the gist of the post- if they find it objectionable, they should just
delete the whole thing.

Troll control? I am all for it. We have certainly had our share.
Thank you Doug for putting up with far more than any of us Nomads will ever know, or need to know for our own minds sake. haha
I often think back to a young kid on the rioting streets in LA that simply asked, 'why can't we all get along'?
Has that kid ever received an answer? Where is he now? One can hope he is now advocating for an equitable justice system that can alleviate the
injustices he experienced in his youth.
His simple plea to all on the burning streets of LA has been burned into my soul ever since. "Why can't we all get along?
How does this relate to Baja?
Perhaps, in my appreciating the benefit that my decades in Baja has paid me back in spades over and over, and still does in some way with every
sojourn south, will consider that most Nomads are of a like-mind in their own love of Baja.
We are all one here. ? In some respects, absolutely. Others, not so much.
Doug, you have somehow managed to manage the disparate voices and we Nomads are all grateful in our own ways.
If we are here, we are of like minds in some respect and we all owe Doug the consideration he deserves for keeping this site operating.
