I am very aware of the pitfalls. I have taken many pictures of bad roads and they always come out not nearly as intense as they were. If a road even
looks remotely bad on video, it is 10x worse in real life. That is why I put in the "LOL".

Well, another thing that can happen is IF you own a Jeep Rubicon... and leave it in 2WD when you are off road!!!
When you leave Rancho Santa Ynez for the mission... THAT is when you engage the transfer case into H4 (4WD High Range) and lock the hubs (some newer
rigs have automatic locking hubs when you go into 4WD).
There will be a few places where you will want to or need to go into LOW RANGE... for slow, safe crawling over the rocks and up or down steep grades.
On the Tacoma World Forums, I posted this for a new Tacoma owner who wasn't sure how to four wheel...

Everyone with a 4WD Taco needs to enjoy their truck and what it was made to do! 4WD LOW (L4) is for CRAWLING Up or Down steep grades, or deep/ stuck
in the mud situations... SLOW is the beauty of LOW RANGE... You won't break things if you crawl over them. Low Range is for maximum torque power to
the tires, not speed. As has been said above, you can't go fast in L4.
Now, for the '09 and '10 Off Road TRD 4WD Tacos... We have the A-TRAC button to push in L4, this provides LSD (Limited Slip Differential) action so if
one of the tires pops into the air or begins to spin from lack of traction, the opposite tire will now get power to pull you along.
Earlier Tacomas had open differentials only, so once a tire looses traction, only it will have power and spin, uselessly. That is why we loved the
LOCKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL... That insured at least both rear tires got power, even if one of them lost traction or was in the air.
Maximum traction is 4L, A-TRAC and LOCKING RR DIFF. all working for you. This is for slow speed and to get out of the tough situation. Turn off the
locker when you don't need it. A-TRAC will take care of you!
For those of you new to four wheeling your new Taco, most of your four wheeling will be in H4. This allows higher speed and fun in snow, sand, mud. H4
is shift on the fly (from H2) and is automatically in TRAC (LSD) for front and rear limited slip traction.
If you are in 2WD Taco (H2) and you become stuck (rear tires won't get you out) a quick push of the VSC OFF button turns on AUTO LSD for LSD braking
action without regulating engine output. Those of us with 4X4 Tacos can just go into H4 for a better way out, but AUTO LSD is available in H2!
If you want to spin donuts (H4 or H2) and goof off, hold the VSC-OFF button for 5 seconds while stopped, and the '09/ '10 Taco will be just like the
earlier ones with open differentials. Touch the button again or re-start your truck and TRAC + VSC is reactivated.

David I got 10" inches of ground clearance. thats measuring from the diff, to the ground right?

Green Angels...
Hello my friends,
I made some calls and, if you want, I may be able to get you an escort from one of the Green Angels vehicles for your trip (http://www.sectur.gob.mx/wb/secturing/sect_eng_angeles_verde...)... this means that one of their units could tag along with you and be ready to
help, in case any problems arise... just as a precautionary measure.
They could escort you all the way from Tijuana, Ensenada or El Rosario to Mision Santa Maria and back... it all depends on how you arrange your final
schedule.
I do not wish to make your trip less exciting, and since I do not know what you are expecting from it, this is totally optional and up to you all...
no one will feel bad if you decide you do not need them.
I only ask that if you do decide to take the offer, please let me know ASAP to secure the vehicle for you.
Also, once you have your schedule finalized, I would like to offer you all a treat at BajaCactus, maybe a nice Mexican style breakfast or dinner, so
you are ready and strong to start your wonderful adventure on Saturday.

If the escort is armed for our protection, maybe? However, I think Green Angels are for mechanical issues?
I sure hope nobody has a breakdown on the highway if they plan on driving to the mission... Heck, I really hope that nobody breaks in there where
there is no help to rescue you, other than us Nomads!

We do need to be on the road by 8:30 am Saturday... So, what would work out better... breakfast before we go or dinner on Friday?
How many Nomads are going to stay at Baja Cactus Friday night? Do you all have Friday off and can be there in time for dinner... or would a 7:30
breakfast be better? Of course it's up to Antonio... but some feedback may help.
We plan on coming out Sunday afternoon... so please reserve us a room then, too. Just can't get too much of Baja Cactus!!!

Antonio i think is going to be hard to get all the nomads on the same schedule, due to some will leave earlier than other, and some will be at Santa
Ynes already on Feb 12.
So lets see from the nomads attending this trip, who is planing to stay in Bajacactus, we need to know so Antonio will have and idea who will be

Getting into and out of the mission is not for the faint of heart. Only a true blood off roader with the courage and determination of back hill
exploration should attempt this dangerous trip. If you drive anything less than a GMC 4x4 you are taking your life into your hands and only I may be
able to save you. But don't fear I have plenty of tow straps and each has the name of the type of vehicle it can safely pull out. But if you are in a
jeep I may have to leave you.

Yup... one needs to GO SLOW... and creep over the boulders!
You want to be in L4/ 4LO/ 4WD LOW RANGE... and best to have the rear differential LOCKED and/or LSD (limited slip differsntials)!

David, I just saw this thread for the first time. How about my F250 4x4 long bed making this stretch? I would just leave the camper at Santa Inez, I
guess. Not sure it would make it through the tough terrain. Or, I could ride with you guys. Gotta see if I can get the time off from my part time
job.
