No. No myth at all. I'm sure there's a basis in fact. If someone were to be in the local park, standing on a soapbox and talking the overthrow of the government, he would do well to have his bags packed.
On the other hand, discussing politics in public can't be offensive to any democratic government. You just can't openly trash anybody. You never know who could call in a marker and have you removed. It doesn't take much in a country where it's not what you know, it's who you know.

Journalists take a known, calculated risk.

No question about the scenerio in the park, but we are talking about the internet.

Would be interesting to hear of actual cases of foreigners being deported for opinions posted on a forum. It would be news to me. I don't doubt Jesse's post, just would be interesting to hear some examples.

I'd guess that in reality those parties just fade away and it really never becomes a story.

What JESSE has posted as I understand it, that is why you will never see a post from me that is Mexican Political. Aside from that a person or persons could make political posts for years an nobody bother, but then out of a clear blue sky they swoop down and your gone back to NANALAND. And don't ask me what constitutes a political post because I don't know, but I'm sure the people that enforce such issues know. I'm sure Maggie knows how far she can go, if not she may be gone one of theses days and not lost in the surf.:wow::wow:

Several years ago I bought a 60-year-old PFAFF 130 sewing machine at the Primo Tapia market.

The guy wanted $45 for it and I wound up paying $25. :o

Geez. This thread, entitled "Teo's Gang on the Verge of Extinction" may just be the award winner for rambling off the topic. From second hand thrift stores, to Hawaiian shirts, to alcohol checkpoints.......Not to mention the voluntary resignation of a Nomad........

Amazing!:lol::lol:

I am saying you been here for about a year, you don't know how things run around here, and you obviously don't know that it is ilegal for a non Mexican citizen to get involved in domestic politics.

I personally don't care if you do or not get into trouble, but your leaving yourself exposed to others.

remember you got kicked out from la paz group for the same thing.

Jesse,

This must mean our friendly blogger in SADM is a Mexican Citizen? If not how does she get away with her blogg?

Many foreigners have a "record" in immigration, and don't even know it. Suddenly they get denied a renovation on their papers, or a citizenship application, and they don't know why.

And I draw the line at embroidery.

Like Woooosh, I like quality stuff and discovered long ago that you could buy used stuff that was cheaper and better quality than much of the new / lower quality stuff. Besides, it is just fun to go sorting through the myriad of "pre-owned" treasures folks put up for sale.

Even make it a point to go on an empty stomach because there is always somebody selling something that smells wonderful to eat along the way...

very close and current- Thanks Dennis. Reporting DUI checkpoints is the issue there. The gov't says disclosing secret locations of them on Twitter is the problem, The Twits say once you have seen it with your own eyes- why is it illegal to report it? There are some sane heads though:

“We have to play within the rules of the game,” Krame said. “These are open sources. If we try to regulate them we’re just going to end up like China battling Google.”

Aw...I don't know, Corny. Seems nobody can bring us back on topic. I guess I'll have to do it myself.

OK, Nomads....Here's that Sourdough Starter recipe someone asked for a while back:
-----

Ingredients
3 tablespoons instant mashed potato flakes 3 tablespoons white sugar 1 cup warm water 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
Directions
Combine instant potatoes, sugar, water, and yeast in a covered container. Let the starter sit on a counter for 5 days, stirring daily with a wooden spoon.
On the morning of the fifth day, feed the starter with 3 tablespoons instant potatoes, 3 tablespoons sugar, and 1 cup warm water. In the evening, take out 1 cup of the starter to use in a sourdough recipe. Refrigerate the remaining starter.
Every five days, feed the starter 3 tablespoons instant potatoes, 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 cup water. If starter is to be used in a recipe, let the fed starter rest at room temperature 6 hours before use. If starter is not being used in a recipe, keep refrigerated and discard 1 cup of starter after each feeding.
