So, someone has reported this to U-Haul - possibly anonymously, as U-Haul lets you do that from their website...

...and I've received an email from someone in their Equipment Recovery department. I've called the main HQ # in AZ to confirm that this person is legit... and he is.

He'd like to find out further details in determining who this is (name, plates, ???) - in order to facilitate their safe return to the USA.

From the email I received:

"We were given the information regarding the posting of the elderly couple in the U-Haul truck. We are concerned about this situation and for the safety and well being of the parties involved. U-Haul does not allow its rental equipment to be taken into Mexico, so any U-Haul equipment that is south of the United States border is in Mexico unlawfully. We are also concerned about the safety and health of the people in the U-Haul mentioned. If there is anyway someone with more information on this truck, including Brenda who may have a name of one of them, could contact me, We can see if we can bring closure to this matter."

Contact me privately, and I'll either pass along any information you provide me, or will get you this person's contact info (email/tel#) so you can do so directly yourself.

Thanks,
-
Doug

...the plot thickens....

...btw... and I didn't know this... but the U-Haul person in the Recovery department I spoke with informed me that ALL U-Hauls have Arizona plates. HQ's in Phoenix.

I agree,, this needs to be brought to a closure,, they are in trouble and need help...this older couple has no business traveling in Baja, LOST or not,, some one said in this post that the passenger side mirror was broken off,, must have got to close to a trucker or bus,, or something,, If this was my elderly parents lost in Baja,, I would want some one to intervine and remove them from this situation,, like even going up to the U-Haul and removing the keys from them and calling on some help

We will be entering Mexico via Hwy 1 on 3-20-08 and will keep a look out for the U-haul, I do understand that they are in the La Paz area, but they could head north again. So We will be watching as far as BOLA. Connie & Brett

Wow, angels in the form of the U-haul Recovery Department working through the Nomads board.

You would think U-Haul would allready be looking for this truck....it has been posted here since 3/7 and had to be rented at least several days prior to that....and yet they know nothing.

Thanks some ppl finally cared

Thanks to ALL who cared about and helped in this situation. I am sure some of you secretly prayed for them. Believers really get hammered on this web site. Anyway, I will continue to pray for them.

I really don't agree that "believers get hammered", only that this site is not Baja PTL.

If we see them in Mulege
we're prepared to act with respect and take the keys to the truck first,
then work things out with the police and hope for the best.

Of course it isn't 'Baja PTL' here, it's just weird that ppl can talk about nearly *anything* on the planet anywhere but the thing that makes the world really mad is if ppl do talk about God (the one the Christians believe in). It's ok to talk about practically *anything* or anyone else except that. It's seems to be society's taboo topic number one .

Oh well, it's always been that way and always will be.

I am not trying to stir things up; I just had to vent a lil.

Let's see.....? Lost Jehovahs looking for a shortcut to Arizona in a U-Haul. Nonsocial, combative and will not accept help. Sounds fishy to me. I think they stole the truck and are living in it.

I just can't believe their tale, sorry. They always manage to go the opposite way they should shunning any real help.

Of course if you/they are lost I'm sure the nice folks at U-Haul would understand.;)

What, not possible?

Oh btw, if these folks really are on the up & up and they really are that lost I would like to see them back home safe. Then revoke their licenses.

I think they might simply be mentally ill, which is not their fault. Of course they probably should not be allowed to drive again if severely mentally ill or if they did a scam on purpose.

Hey, it's all part of Jehovah's plan for them. Why intercede between the Divine and his/her underlings?

Maybe this couple is destined to wander the desert in a U-Haul for 40 days and 40 nights? Still some time to go.

I'm dying to know what's in the back of that rig...........gotta be more interesting that Al Capone's vault.

If this is all legit, (and it's too weird not to be), I think they are trying to hunker down for the imminent Tribulation before the Rapture. The truck's loaded with survivalist provisions is my bet.

This is gonna make the national press any day now, I am predicting................

This Truck may not be under a Lease.

Uhaul sells their trucks to the Public with out paint over the Name so they may have bought.
I have a friend looking for them in La Paz.

Yes, this board does have some Posters who are "Scared to Death" of Ole Skeeter because he believes in a Supreme Being and also believes in all the Good things in Life instead of all the Bad stuff Especially DOPE.

I am sure that if Jesse sees or hears about them he will help.

Is it not strange that the Post I made asking for people to help those people was deleted.. Guess I used the wrong lanuage for some of the bad Posters. Sorry about that..
