I never said that the guns were planted. All I did was report what was said by a group of journalists on a news roundtable, discussing the facts coming out about the event. It does appear based on conflicting accounts and video that this did not go down as initially reported, that's all. The more the stories start to change the more it adds fuel to the fire that this appears to be more politically motivated, which I think would be a shame.

That would be political theater and something I really hate...

Dozens support Hank; they say they are paid to demonstrate

About 200 people, about 20 cars and a similar number of Tijuana urban buses are on the road to the entrance road to the prison in El Hongo.

Among those attending are children, youth and older adults, with banners showing support for businessman Jorge Hank Rhon.

One of the young people interviewed said off-camera that some people offered 300 to 400 pesos for people to join the demonstration.

Reminds me of the joke about the kid who was so ugly his parents had to tie a steak around his neck so the dog would play with him.

Mexico judge frees Tijuana ex-mayor, rules lack of evidence for weapons charges

By The Associated Press

TIJUANA, Mexico — A federal judge ordered the release of former Tijuana Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon early Tuesday, saying officials lacked evidence to charge him with illegal weapons possession after a military raid on his house.

The 55-year-old gambling magnate had been held since the June 4 raid on his Tijuana house, beside a racetrack and casino. Hank Rhon is part of a prominent clan in the Institutional Revolutionary Party that is trying to regain Mexico's presidency next year's election.

Judge Blanca Evelia Parra Meza also ordered the release of eight people arrested with Hank Rhon. It was not clear early Thursday if Hank Rhon had left the prison.

Mexico's military said it found 88 weapons and nearly 10,000 rounds of ammunition during the raid. Federal prosecutors said only 10 of the weapons were licensed and the prosecutor of Baja California state later said two of the guns found had been used in homicides, according to ballistics tests.

Hank Rhon denied any knowledge of the guns and his lawyer has said none of the guns seized were Hank Rhon's.

The judge issued the order before dawn and Hank Rhon's lawyers were still outside the prison an hour later, along with a Maserati the tycoon uses.

Hundreds of supporters of the flamboyant politician also gathered in anticipation of a celebration.

Hank Rhon's attorneys argued that soldiers needed a search warrant when they entered the sprawling compound in central Tijuana around 3 a.m. on June 4 and said their failure to get one merited dismissal of the charges without even considering the 40 rifles, 48 handguns, 9,298 bullets, 70 ammunition clips and a gas grenade that were seized.

It's a tattered, worn-out script. Mexico is a country that has no need for a calendar. Time stands still.

According to the Union Tribune online, it says that Hank was immediately taken into custody upon release from the prison by state authorities who took him to an office of the state attorney general in Playas de Tijuana.

According to this article, Hank and a few others who were arrested with him were taken to the office of organized crime investigations unit in Playas for questioning about the two weapons found that were traced back to other crimes.

Not quite. Latest word is that Hank is being charged with murder by the state Attorney General and will be arraigned today. I don't think they let murder suspects post bail. But who knows...?

Sure he will. If all else fails, they could discover that all the weapons are artificial, toys, just like the controlled contraband he was caught with in the airport.

This is BS Hank Rhon is released by the Federal Judge only to enjoy his freedom for awhile and then they arrest him on organized crime charges, and in the meantime lot of rumors are flying around and nobody knows what will happen next.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Hank Rhon will be let free because of the bogus warrant-less. If Rhon was in the US and got arrested like this. He would have already been free and they would have tossed the case out of court for civil right violations.

If these organized crime charges stick. It could be must worst for Rhon, because he'll have less constitutional rights.

It's good to see so many Mexican citizens in support of Hank Rhon where picture after picture in the Mexican press showed support of Rhon, and showed where they gathered thousands of signatures also in support for Hank Rhon. It looks like the Catholic church in some circles is also supporting Hank Rhon.

Meaningless. One doesn't need rights when they have money and power, especially as deeply entrenched as his power is.
