will be able to drive back up it, that has many stay on the top. |
This sounds thrilling! Bob H

Jose, before you said you were staying at Baja Cactus Friday night... ?
If we are able to go, we will stay at Baja Cactus Friday night and Sunday night... Go to Santa Ynez by 10 am Saturday... Arrive at Santa Maria about 1
pm, camp that night, and head out by NOON on Sunday... Plenty of time to explore the mission, oasis, El Camino Real, Petroglyphs, Indian trail to
Gonzaga... Saturday afternoon and/ or Sunday morning.
If there are issues with any of the vehicles on the way in, we will have 4 hours of daylight beyond the typical slow drive time to resolve them.
(pulling someone up a steep grade, or transferring cargo to another pickup if someone gives up and parks their rig for the night, etc.)

We plan on driving all the way to Santa Ynez and camp there Friday night but it depends on how tired I get. I have to work at least during the
morning.

LOL! It was you saying your wife wants to stay at Baja Cactus that gave me the idea of doing that! Baja Angel agrees! No need to make camp twice...
packing up the tent and air mattress takes awhile.
Remember, BajaCactus (Antonio) is doing a special treat and offereing last year's rates for Nomads staying there Friday night.

What an air mattress, oh my, I thought this was a roughing it trip. I was planning on sleeping on the ground the way the padres did. I was giving Neal
and his wife a break with the camper since she was driving in. Guess I may rethink it now.

What are we going to use for communication, CB? FRS/GMRS? I have both.

The only major communication needs to be between the lead and the end vehicle. If someone gets stuck or takes a few tries to climb one of the many
grades. The lead vehicle can stop before getting too far ahead.
If it is like our other caravans, we will be within sight of the vehicle in front or behind so will know when to hold up. Taking photos of our various
rigs on this Jeep trail will mean lots of photo stops.
Over the 14 1/2 miles, there will be for sure stops at that first nasty gully crossing 1.8 miles from the ranch... at the peninsular divide where you
can see Punta Final on the gulf, 9.9 miles... The granite slide a couple more miles down... the Widowmaker at 13+ miles... The bog (swamp) in the palm
oasis... and then the mission.
I am very anxious to try it all with the new Tacoma A-TRAC (Active Traction Control) system and not use the Locker, unless I need to. A-TRAC has been
available on the FJ Cruiser before 2009 when The Tacoma got the limited slip differential system.

David -- Is that vehicle on the Toyota "accelerator" list?

The truck had no floor mats because of what happened in Santee... When I discovered that, I told them I wanted the mats from my old Tacoma... and they
were fine with giving them to me... two days after the deal was made.
The stock Tacoma floor mat drivers side is hooked to the floor... there is no way it can interfere with the accelerator pedal. What happened in Santee
was that Lexus loaner car is it had a second floor mat on top of the stock one... from what I read. The previous user of the loaner even complained to
the Lexus dealership about it catching... and they did nothing. This is a big issue against that dealership. Toyota is not at fault, but have done so
much to ease the minds of their customers.
I do not have any information about an additional accelerator issue or recall.
I am on my third Tacoma, with 242,000 total miles in the past 9 years and have had NO accelerator issues.
