did you know?

the remotest of the Boleo mines, Mina Amelia, produced the most unusual minerals Boleite.
One of the rarest crystals on the planet.
Eduard Cumenge, a French geologist named it after the Boleo company.

in the nearby mine Mina Curuglu Cumenge found another rare mineral - he named it after himself.
Cumengeite.
Boleite are perfect cubes, whereas Cumengeite is a perfect six pointed star

Pretty interesting stones. Any idea how plentiful they are/were at that mine?

My dad was a rockhound, and Baja was one of his hunting grounds, but he never brought home either of those crystals. Those are beyond cool!

Thank you for posting this, Harald.
I recall reading in one of Graham Mackintosh's books how he and his wife hunted crystals near Santa Rosalia.

That may be what spurred Bonni & Graham Mackintosh to prospect there in 1998 for the square-blue crystals of boleite and pseudoboleite? See pages 247-249 of the 2001 book, Journey with a Baja Burro. The Amelia Mine at Canyon Soledad was the reference point.

Did you know that Boleite crystals can appear in different colors depending on how you look at them? This feature, called pleochroism, makes them even more captivating.
