Contract Awarded in $600 Million International Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

"wastewater infrastructure projects both planned and underway on both sides of the border, will eliminate an estimated 90 percent of the untreated sewage that is currently being dumped into the Pacific Ocean."

I toured the IWBC sewage treatment plant at the border when it was first built, concurrent to when they were digging the tunnel for the new deep water sewage outfall off Imperial Beach. That was 26 years ago, and the problem persists. The plant consisted of a holding basin about the size of a kidney shaped pool in a tract home, where the sewage was dosed with chemicals prior to being discharged into the deep ocean. Perhaps it would be better to rethink the practice of diverting all the water in the Colorado River and using it once to flush toilets.

I am a bit surprised by the $600 million price tag considering it still leaves 10 percent untreated (not an insignificant amount)

Hopefully that 10% is addressed soon as well
