RIP MMc

It is with great heartache that I share this. It was written by a close friend of Mike's.

It is with a great deal of sadness that I share with this group the unexpected passing of Mike McMullen, a member of this group 9TALK BAJA) since 2013 and an avid Baja explorer for far longer than that. Any of you who had the opportunity to meet or chat with Mike know his enthusiasm for Baja and its people. He was always happy to share his knowledge and help anyone on their journey. He was a kind and generous person supporting the, "Grandpa's," retirement home in San Quentin with regular deliveries of food, supplies and economic support; sometimes the sole purpose of his trip. He was a great supporter of preserving the environment and the wild creatures that survive in it. His tireless energy for whale watching encounters with Baja Magicmx was just one example.

*********************************************************************************************************

Mike was an angel to me, after we left Baja, he would allow me to send things for the grandpa's and he would haul it down with his supplies.

Whenever I was in a pinch with cash for a college scholarship students, he was my GO TO emergency angel.

To be honest, I still cannot believe he is not around physically any more. He was a good good to the bone kind of guy.

This is a photo of Mike on our porch with Rex.

REST IN ETERNAL PEACE and thanks for who you were.

Yes, I guess it had been a while since he posted. He was so busy with Bahia Asuncion and whale watching camps, and the grandpa's.

Our Whale Magic Tours tribe is grieving the loss from a sudden heart attack of our dear brother Mike McMullen who has been our angel for many years. Mike was always there when we needed him...Whale Camp wouldn't exist if it werent for his generosity and ingenuity...Personally, he was my rock, my inspiration to try new things, my friend and confidant and greatest fan. I am absolutely in pieces and cant imagine a birthday without him. We will have a shrine at Whale Camp for him and never forget all he means to us.
Mike...thank you from the bottom of my broken heart for all you gave me, for being a true friend. I envision you surfing, fishing, camping, making food and kissing lots of whales over there on the other side and look forward to meeting up with you there. Oh and by the way....I Love you man!

I never had the privilege of meeting Mike; it sounds like that is my loss.

Last week I got together with my old classmates for our 60th high school class reunion. It was great to share what old times we still remembered with friends I have known since grade school.

Going over the list of those who have already passed was the only downside to the gathering.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

I have my 50th next year! In Rio de Janeiro at the international high school I went to. So excited.

I agree with Shari, Mike was angel to many. I am not sure how the grandpa's will fare, he went over and above to help them.

Mike so loved the whale camps and his amigas, he always said his happy place was BAJA. Sorry you did not meet him AK, he was an icon.

While I never had the privilege to meet Mike in person, the years of Whale Magic he helped promote with Shari have become a yearly passion for me to reignite.

He appeared to be a whale spirit brother I missed out on knowing directly. Thank you Shari and Sirena, and Mike, for the gift that forever gives back.

My loss, and for those who knew him even more, is unimaginable for the gifts he left behind.

We all should hope that when our own time comes, some appreciation of whatever we stood for, will inspire others.

Apparently, Mike helped inspire Shari and Sirena and everyone who has had the privilege to experience directly the gentlest of beasts.

The heart of the matter, their large whale hearts, is the overriding conclusion I have come away from back in the days when my very first gray whale excursion with Shari took off from the inner lagoon.

I cannot, and would not like to imagine a season without at least a few day trips from town for my friends with Shari bussing us out to the whale camp boat location. Thank you Shari and Sirena.

Oh no .. :-(
Rest in peace Mike ..

Sharing our experiences
He accepted by snail mail 50 packets of vegetable and flower seeds for the grandpas and purchased a variety of items from monetary donations. A kind man.

Our sincere condolences. Lori & Tommy
