Oaxacan La Bocana scholarship kids aced their grades
Hi All!
Most of you probably remember the 7 child Oaxacan family that moved to La Bocana years ago. I first met them when their Mom, Tidiana, approached me
as I was doing a solo trash clean up asking if I would help her pay for the elementary school fees for her kids. On the spot, I said we could make a
deal where she helped me with clean ups and I covered the $15 for 3 kids.
Over the years, they moved from the dump to a house that they have built, brick by brick. We first got them a sewer system, then connected them to
the town water, then got them electricity and finally hooked up internet. That was miracle 1!
Now all kids are in school and the need is massive. Thank you to BajaNomad Phil for being the guy who twists his family and friend's arms to sponsor
the public school uniforms. Last year, the total cost was $600. This year, the cost skyrocketed to $1500. Formal school uniform, gym clothes and 2
shoes (sneaker and uniform shoe). What a guy, what a Godsend.
Two of my high school friends and I share the cost of beginning of the year school supplies - this year it comes to 7000 pesos.
During the schooll year, it is up to me to cover monthly haricuts since they get verbally chastised by the school director, in front of the whole
student body, if hair is long. I pay internet, water, and electric - as well as monthly school project (think Day of the Dead etc.).
Well, the deal is that the kids MUST ace their classes. Their July final grades came in and whoohooooooooooo THEY ACED THEIR CLASSES!

I feel like this is a miracle. How blessed am I to be able to witness this. If you ever want to help, send me a message. I worry that I cannot die
for 17 years or until the last one (Hasan), just in preschool, finishes college!
and If you do head south, please consider taking them heavy duty backpacks! If you want to drop them off at the yurts in San Ignacio, we can
coordinate that. Then you do not get too far off your route south.
But, really, I am just sharing because this is a big deal for me and I am really happy to help such a loving and deserving family.
PS I should mention that Tidiana is illierate, that she has a heart condition so could not tie her tubes and that we paid for husband Abraham to get
his vasectomy right after the last child Hasan was born.
