HURACÁN LORENA… Hurricane season got spicy!

500 PM PDT Sat Aug 30 2025

2. South of Southern Mexico:
A tropical wave is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms south of southern Mexico. An area of low pressure is expected to form from this system early next week, and it is likely to become a tropical depression by the middle of next week while moving west-northwestward or northwestward at 10 to 15 mph just offshore of the southwestern coast of Mexico.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...80 percent.

Suffer?

From what I have seen so far this season, the entire peninsula has been way too dry. I am rooting for something to come along and drop some rain.

The forecast models on Windy show the storm centers probably will stay offshore while at least Baja Sur will catch some much needed showers.

I stay in touch with Mx friends in BCS who pray every day for rain. If it comes in the form of a hurricane they'll gladly accept. It beats seeing all of their livestock starve to death. It's been a rough couple of years. Some folks whose families have been ranchers for generations tell me that they can't hang on much longer, so I say bring on the rain in whatever form it comes in.

What a stupid comment. I guess you also think that meteorologists that report an imminent hurricane or tornado or flood are "rooting for people to suffer".

Using the Windy rain and thunder model, this is what the forecast for Thursday looks like; https://www.windy.com/-Rain-thunder-rain?rain,2025-09-04-21,...

If it grows, will be named TS Lorena. Right now forecasts show two possibilities, it continues west over pacific, or curves east and comes ashore somewhere in mid-bcs…

I have tentative plans for an October trip down the peninsula. I love it when the desert blooms!

A perfect backroad for me is one that I barely make it through without getting stuck. I try to avoid "off-road" to give nature a better chance of thriving.

Good for you. Too bad there are those who seem to think it's perfectly okay to regard sensitive ecosystems as their personal playground, without a thought about what they are running over (just because it's too small for you to see doesn't mean it's not there or unimportant), what their gas fumes and oil leaks are doing to the environment, or how the noise of their motorized vehicles affects the wildlife.

As of 11:00 AM PDT Mon Sep 1 2025...
South of Southwestern Mexico (EP94):
Showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave located
less than 150 miles off the coast of southwestern Mexico are
starting to become better organized, and recent satellite-derived
wind data indicate that winds to 35 mph are present in the
disturbance close to the coast of Mexico. This system is expected
to become a tropical depression by the middle of the week. This
system is expected to move west-northwestward to northwestward at
10 to 15 mph off the coast of southwestern Mexico during the next
couple of days, then could turn northward and approach the Baja
California peninsula later this week. Interests in the Baja
California peninsula should monitor the progress of the
disturbance, as watches or warnings could be required for portions
of this area on Tuesday. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall
is possible across coastal portions of southwestern and
west-central Mexico today through mid-week. Heavy rainfall is also
expected across Baja California Sur and northwestern Mexico Tuesday
night through late this week. This heavy rainfall could lead to
flash flooding, especially in mountainous areas.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...80 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...90 percent.

The ad that showed up in JZ's contribution was perfect.

I know the ads change by the minute, but this ad showed a man sleeping on his side with drool pooling and coming out of his mouth for sleep apnea.

For once an ad and a post had perfect timing sharing the same space. I couldn't help but imagine that was JZ.

All in fun all.

In that same space, the ad that pops up for me is one for off-road tires! That must be an omen!
