Puerto Escondido launch ramp..

Received an E-mail today, It looks like the cost of using the boat ramp has gone from $12.00 a day to $26.00.. Launch and park your truck.

The fuel dock had been getting a 10% additional charge for fuel is going to 20% mark up...

A Mexican friend told me yesterday that the charge for parking and launching is 300 pesos. He has fished there for years, and claimed that the new port authority there "does not want Mexican people at Puerto Escondido."

The fees are apparently set in US dollars, and they round up from a fair exchange of 287 if you only have pesos, perhaps because they don't want to carry change?

Last time I was there, in December, the old ramp had reopened after a brief closure.; there is a new ramp but it's not as good for ease of access and parking.

API and Singlar:rolleyes:

They sure as hell wont be seeing me launch there. Its a nice ramp but 287 pesos??? It seems they want to discourage more than just Mexican boat owners.

La Salina is $20. It's nice because they have total security..... validate your ID, list items in car/truck, verify all that when you get back..... and then they even have a fresh water washdown at the ramp and hot showers in clean bathrooms.

Also, the breakfast at the cantina there is excellent!

Don, some of us dont have unlimited cash to spend and Im sure most of the locals cant afford that kind of launch fee. Turning Loreto into a home for the wealthy only is a sad statement.

What do you all expect. We Gringos come to Baja and bring our big boats etc and when the goverment or businesses want to charge us gringo dollars we have a fit. Face it, Baja is growing up and becoming more and more American. We had to pay over $90.00 a night to stay at a La Pinta that was so run down as the hot water didn't work. Cabo is built out. San Jose is real close to Cabo. Los Barielles is a joke with the prices on land and hotels. And it is moving up the inland coast. Loreto is now, after many years, completing the marina in Puerto Esocndido and the Loreto Bay resort housing. Please enjoy it while you can because it will be gone soon. We have been going to Baja since the 70's. It had always been a real deal but it is not anymore. Still, I love it more than anything.

This is accurate and more proof that Loreto is becoming an exclusive club. But if there's people willing to pay why not charge, or at least try to? Not my opinion but theirs. Its a little past the beginning of the end here, sad. Just waiting for the municipal marina to start charging, they will soon enough. So how much you think its worth to launch your boat then have to wait till 10:30PM to get it back out because the tide needs to rise, our launch ramp is a worthless P.O.S.

There must be a way to sending our sentiments to those who make these decisions? Any ideas Dan? You're in charge of the wake up committee in Loreto, I;'m too damned busy.

I wouldnt mind paying a reasonable fee if some of it went to improving the ramp. I will be down at the marina for the next week or so in order to gather ideas and opinions. If I can gather anything constructive, the ideas will be posted here.

Well first the marina was built "con solidaridad" as a gift to the municipio de Loreto, then it turned into Fonatur domain when the cruise ships started and since this past year now API. I'd like to see the crowd of locals (Mexicanos Loretanos not foreign retirees) reaction when they are told there will be a fee to use the launch and marina. This is not Cabo, Loreto has been an established and well organized town for 300+ years. Won't happen without a local revolution, mark my words.

Don Jorge I have no problem with Loreto being too expensive for the average tourists, not my decision as to determine the market, but I have a big problem with it becoming so unaffordable that the real Loretanos can no longer afford it. These people deserve better than what their government and the developers have planned for them.

Hola Amigos... Pam hug that guy. Fransico give it back...

God I love this place. I am self employed and make way to much money, 6 days of work minimum, a week. Just waiting to get my chance at some time in my place Tripui. I see all this big dollar building and I am just a RV kind of Guy. Got $55,000.00 invested in my nothing. And I see Tripui going thru the roof. I really don't know if I can keep up with the Jone's and be able to stay here.. My few weeks a year of use... You do know that there is more money us Norte's have than we can spend.. Look at the crap at "Loreto Bay"... They are paying real money for this chit. Big dollars.............

and they think we are all same.. we all got big dollars..

get-em while you can

OK when he gets home I'll follow your instructions, won't report what happens afterward

Not all locals think that all gringos are loaded with dinero but their out of touch government officials do, so its happening. But its tough to convince folks that we put our pants on one leg at a time like they do, when newcomers from the norte haul in some of the things they do, build enormous monstrosities on the beach and throughout town, and flaunt their wallets all over the place. Yeah Tripui sure has changed but you have something there, quiet, better deal than in town and without the robberies. You'll just have to be stuck using our crappy launch in town, but stop by and say "hi" on the way.

circulated in Loreto by email:
Quote:

Dear Local Boaters:

First of all want to thank you for all your comments about the increases on our rates, and how this affects the local boating community, your opinion is very important for Singlar. We want to inform you that all your comments are being taking care, and we want your patience with this matter, we are considering to review this new rates and as soon as I have information regarding this situation, I would let you know.

and here's more:

Quote:
I have met and talked to Rosauro Herrera on 01/18/07, the last day
where one could launch at the "old" still high rate of 132 pesos/day. She is a
nice person, but does have NO decision power. Neither does her boss, Mr.
Federico Cortina. I called Mexico City Singlar's Manager's office of Nautical
Service, Mr. Herardo Goncales Carmarena, where I spoke with his
secretary, Ms Sarah Ortez. She was very pleasant and promised to convey my concern
to the Manager. The same evening Mr. Federico Cortina called me,
indicating that they are concerned at the outcry this rate hike has brought and
hope to rectify the situation. I also questioned why they have closed one of the best launch ramps the Bahia has, which was primarily brought to it's present standard by
Gringo money and labor and plan to meet with him early next week. He was
surprised to hear from me, that the old ramp was one of the best found in the
Bahia. Singlar was very quick to raise the rates, I doubt they will be as
quick to repeal the rate hike.
