La Candelaria
We were in Candelaria a couple of weeks ago and took clothes and school supplies to the boarding school. They are in need of cleaning supplies if
anyone is going to that area. they need mops, soap to clean the floors, cleaning supplies for the bathrooms. the place is spotless but those supplies
are running short they said. they also need curtains for the windows in the dorm rooms.

Which one, Steve?
The one between Mulege and San Ignacio (in the mountains) or the one just north of Cabo (on the old Todos Santos road)? That's the only ones listed in
my Almanac... Sounds like you are doing a great thing there!

CANDELARIA
The one between MULEGE and SAN IGNACIO in the mountains ...is a RANCHO owned by BETO VILLAVICENCIO and no school at this location. The QUINCENERA in
MAY 2003 in SANTA AGUEDA was for one of his daughters... BIVIANA...
probably talking about the one near TODOS SANTOS.

supplies to Candelaria
To get to Candelaria take the road from Cabo to Todos. Just past the end of the power lines a mile or two (not sure on the distance) you will see a
gate with a gard on your right. This is the road to the dump. Tell the gard where you are going and they will let you through. go down that road for
a few miles and you will come to the fence around the dump. Just before the fence you keep to the right and that is the road to Candelaria. Another
way which is easier is to keep going past the dump road and continue to Todos. You will come to a bridge crossing a large arroyo in two or three
miles follow this arroyo up hill until it branches with two valleys. Keep to the left to town. The distance from the hy. to town is about 6 miles.

To Be more specific (I think)...
I'm looking at the Baja Almanac, pp 55 and 53. From Cabo San Lucas, drive about 25 miles north up the 19 toward Todos Santos. When you approach
Estero Migrino/Laguna Grande, turn east and follow the secondary road about 6 miles to La Candelaria.
All that is from the map as I've never been there.
Good luck with the deliverables. Write it up when you get back.

that road off the highway route is sensitive to rains and etc. its often 4x4 conditions

Just a side note. If you walk down the road (down hill also) to the bottom which is a couple of blocks and turn left and go up to the other side about
100 yards you will see a small ranch house and corals. Go to the house on the left by the open cement watering tank. The family that live there are
great people and the sons run livstock and the farther makes chairs. It is interesting talking to him and watching him work. If anyone wants to email
me and I will email photos of school and chair factory.

In 1997, we were helping a friend build a palapa for his cars. We went up to Candalaria to purchase some carrizo. I have a great photo on my wall of
the man who cut down the 100 or so pieces of 15ft long bamboo. It was amazing to watch him pick out the perfect sized pieces, cut, and bundle them in
no time at all. We tried to buy him a beer afterwards but he said there wouldn't be any beer in town for another couple of days.

there is also an excellent potter in candelaria. in fact that area and surrounding ranchos is know for some of it's excellent pottery. In particular
is a man known as Marcos who's pottery is incredibly graceful and light. Candelaria also has a very interesting but crude electrical system, the only
one in BCS for a small town that is completely independent and still works (palo escopetta is another but I thinks it's been pummeled by the
hurricanes over the last few years). They start up a big generator for about 4 hours each night. They have always been a highly organized political
force that lobbies heavily for Town improvements and seems to succeed More often than not. Unlike our Elias Calles that for some reason can rarely
reach consensus on anything let alone lobby La Paz.

Marie, that sounds nice. I will be there from Feb 26th to about the second week in March. I will track you down. My place is just off the road at
the 82KM south of Pescadero, Ocean side just north of the church looking house, Palapa roof. Not many houses there so it's not too hard to find.
Look forward to sharing a few beers.
