Simple Pleasures...

My favorite? The first sip of an icy cold Ballena after a long day of work, pulled from a cheap styrofoam cooler in the back of a pickup, with the sound of the Pacific crashing against the shoreline for a soundtrack. Mmmmmm!

Simple Luxuries? Something that I could not do without?

Honestly, there isn't anything state side that I could NOT do without south of the border. Old school thinking, I would say Ice and toilet paper. Those are items that one would not want to be missing.

Today, there's dumb stuff, for example; cream rinse for my hair after a salt water bath, Ibuprofeno 800mg, tampons, fishing hooks, line.

Pretty much now a days one could buy their simple luxuries in baja, not so in the past when we had to pack it with us.

There are simple luxuries that we have here in the U.S. that we think we need and could in all reality live without, ie cell phones, lap tops, iPods, watches, etc. It's kind of nice that once we cross the border we can turn all of the luxuries off and actually live life as it used to be or as it should be.

Simple Luxuries of Baja

For those of us not living in Baja, what simple luxuries/pleasures commonplace in Baja do you miss when not in Baja?

Maybe its a shoe shine? Or.....?

I miss maple syrup, blueberries...cherries, rasberries...well.. ALL berries and wild mushrooms and funky music! Sure as hell don't miss the rain & snow. Definately miss my pals but many of the nomads who have visited us have filled that void and Juan's wonderful family make me feel loved.. viva baja

Sitting on a remote beach and watching the sun rise and the tide ebb and not seeing one man made trace of anything on the sand, then watching all the birds starting their day of fun! And then have the feeling last all day.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Listening to the crashing of the surf as we waited to see the green flash at sunset.

Never had a white line on my wrist in all the years I kicked about Baja.................'ICE' never had it for the best years.

When you ventured to the ice house in Ensenada you had to scrape the slime off the ice and we NEVER put it in our drinks.....only used to cool the beer and sodas for a fiesta.

Yes! The simple life and I weighed about 40 pounds less.

A major luxury for my son.

I will forever remember the sight of my son when he would come running out from the palapas each day when that ice cream truck would come into camp playing its funny song on the loudspeaker.

Simple pleasures I have had:

Sunrise/Sunset, Sunrise/Sunset, ..........and more Sunrise/Sunset.

Swish, swish of brooms moving dust and sand.

Pat, pat, pat, pat........the old music of old Mexico.........handmade tortillas.

Kathunk.....kathunk...kathunk..kathunk.kathunk,kathunk etc. The 500 CC one lung corn grinder thumping the adobe till the dust jumped up in the air a pulsing corazone! Good Morning!

Squeeel..........the cut throat of the screaming pig being chased down the dirt main street of San Blas in 1969...

Roosters crowing to summon the dawn.

No watch.

The scream and throb of some sort of unknown fish on the end of the line! What is it? What will come up?

Lobsters....Shrimp.......Lion Paw Scallops.

Smiling people........

Simple pleasures I miss when down south.

Toilets that flush......magic. Soft toilet paper, ahhhhh.

Salads of all sorts...... I spent many years afraid to eat them.

Hmmm, pretty short list there buddy!
