Baja GPS Maps...
Has anybody here tried the "Baja Expeditioner GPS Maps"?
I recently ran into a deal I couldn't pass up on a Garmin Etrex Legend GPS unit, and while looking for a Baja "basemap" for the Garmin units, I came
across this:

Has anyone here had any experience (positive or otherwise) with this product? Anybody got any suggestions for another Garmin-compatible "base map"
set/s for Baja in particular?

I really like it. Detail in flat areas is lacking, but in hilly areas it is nice. Plus it has many of dirt road mapped, even in 'remote' areas.
One issue I have with it is, I have to turn off the Baja Expeditioner maps if I am in California and within 30 or so miles from the border, as the
Baja Expeditioner maps will override the USA topo maps that I also have loaded....and there is no topo or other map detail on the USA side of the Baja
Expeditioner maps.
There are no other topo maps of Baja you can put into the Garmins, that I know of.
Search for “Baja Expeditioner” in the nomad forums. There are several discussions in it.

I use these maps in my GPS. You find errors here and there, but it sure is nice to have. There should be other threads about it here on Nomad.

Great for Baja back roads. Mmmmm is that why I don't have any maps showing when I'm in El Centro.

Yep, it's a winner. Just upgraded to the 2007 version ($30 upgrade).

It is interesting that these maps are reported as being very accurate and a great plug in for land based GPS. The marine maps for the Sea of Cortez
are the absolute pits and are up to 3.5 miles off. Hopefully one of these days they will upgrade the maps so that those who are floating around can
find out where in the heck we are.

Lou, do you have City Navigator 8 and the US Topo series?
I have both in my 60csx but it does not display both at the same time. I have to turn one or the other off. I imagine the clutter could become an
issue with both on but I just want to make sure I aint doing something wrong.

I am currently setting up a laptop with multiple GPS programs (currently for So Cal, but someday BCS?). They also would only run one at a time, as
they each wanted to use the serial port to access the GPS receiver. Franson makes a program called GPSGATE which creates virtual ports, and allows
all the programs to run concurrently so you can switch between them easily (keeping the unwanted ones running but minimized). It seems to work well.

Looks like the same guy who was selling under the name "CustomGPSmaps LLC" a few months ago. Looks like a pirate of LBMaps.....I'd stay away from him.

I leave them both on - the zoom level really effects what shows on the screen - haven't had problems myself. I mostly use it in rural areas - not in
cities much.

This is good stuff. I just ordered a Lowrance 540C today. It's supposed to come with some good maps, but I know that I'll want to "upgrade or
improve". Yes????

Understand LB Maps now has them for the Lowrance (at least some models)

I contacted mexico maps from your post. The owner was very accommodating and helpfull. Thanks for the post. We are traveling to Los Barriles in may
and the maps will be very helpfull. FYI I am using a Garmin 76cs.
