The propiganda (sp?) that is being spewed from this company is even hitting Canada. There is a magazine that gets delivered to us called
westernliving it is all about the western provinces (BC, Alberta and SAskatchewan), and they have a whole article on the Loreto Bay company.
They have a big bold intro that says
"Sustainability weaves through the Loreto Bay development, with a proposed wind farmand the regeneration of long-lost mangrove estuaries forming
cornerstones of the project."
It makes me sad that people actualy will believe this sh*t.

I'm here in
Loreto right now, enjoying the sun (cloudy right now), the warm temps, and as you'all put it, degrading of Loreto. I'm looking right now for someone
who lives here, makes a living here, been here for over 30 years that hates Loreto Bay as much as you guys do. Past year, to now, no luck yet. Sorry
Nomads. I'm referring to the non nomads of Loreto. I know there must be someone out there. Someone who was fired for some reason, someone who asked
to do business with them that didn't get accepted, someone who has been hurt financially by this development.
I have an open mind. Willing to talk with anyone who isn't a nomad.
Yesturday coming south, we stopped at Shari's home in Ascuncion. Diver. You "lucky son of a gun". Aren't you somewhat ashamed that you have acquired
the most perfect piece of property there, and will be destroying it with eventually building a structure on it>>>>?"?????? (hee hee hee)
The new pavement that IS done isn't open to the public yet. Met the person in charge of the project at Shari's yesturday. Talked "won't be long". The
dirt road was rather interesting drive. My passengers hated it. But I loved it. Only improvement would have been driving a Baja Bug rather than the
Chrysler Town & Country. Though it did come through unscathed. A wonder. Glad I put new Toyo's on before coming back down.
Worth the dollars on THAT road. Shari has found her shangri la. Sorry that Juan was out & we didn't get a chance to meet him. I did want to go
out and inspect the Mystery Cave. Anyone done that yet?????? Imagine. Railroad ties running underwater out of the cave and to the bottom?????????
Dah dah dah dah!!!!!!!! The tide was wrong for seeing the 'blow hole' in operation. Next time. Loved this town. 16 years of coming here, and Oh
my gosh the Governors Jet just took off over the hotel. Guess things will return to normal now here in Loreto!!!! Oh yes. 16 years of winters here,
and I have seen changes that many are unhappy with. Progress does upset many, but steamrollers are hard to stop, once the movement has started. Just
ask Diver what he will think about his new community he has chosen in about 20 years, with all the new faces that are showing up there. He &
Shari and others have started a similar movement in a paradise of land on the Pacific.

When you say of someone that they "drank the cool aid", you are saying that they have bought the story, hook-line-and-sinker. Mas o menos, that's the
reference.

I don't really have a dog in the Loreto Bay fight, but I do find it interesting that their Loreto Bay Foundation brochure contains numerous
photographs of marine species which are not found in the Sea of Cortez (examples: the coral types shown on the cover page, the Imperial Angelfish on
page 2, the flame scallop on page 6). The marine life in the Sea of Cortez is magnificent on its own right. The brochure would have been just as
pretty, maybe prettier, if they had used photos actually taken in the ocean around Loreto. Certainly it would have been more authentic.

The first "cool aid" reference was made in Tom Wolff's novel, The Electric Cool aid Acid Test, in 1968. Wolff chronicled the escapades of novelist Ken
Kesey and his "band of merry pranksters" as they traveled the country in a day glo painted school bus. They all drank cool aid laced with LSD. The
challenge was to survive the experience and have fun while getting crazy on acid. In this case the "trip" went to wherever the acid took them.....they
followed the acid.
Guyana is indeed the incident people think of when using the "cool aid" reference. The reference is used when masses follow a cult, religious,
political megalomaniac, and even crooked scammers blindly; without doubt or question. In the Jim Jones tragedy, they followed his fanatic ideas to
their ultimate conclusion in 1978; death. I remember when he started his "Peoples' Temple" in San Francisco. It was a quasi-Christian church that
emphasized social revolution. His movement had the blessings of the city politicos and social leaders. It was multi-racial and very politically
correct for its time and place. At the time, Jones was doing a lot of good for the poor and underprivileged, and he was very savvy at manipulating the
media. My girlfriend at the time was a radio newscaster/director. She interviewed him and came away very impressed, as did everyone at the time.
Although he was always a charismatic leader, his fanaticism didn't start to show up until a couple of years later and he reestablished the Peoples'
Temple in Guyana. Like any fanatical leader, the craziness surfaced incrementally. People who don't have a strong sense of identity, who are seeking
spiritually or are trying to grasp some sense of belonging are the most vulnerable. They find comfort and affirmation in a leader who, for them, seems
to have all the answers. They are led, step by step, to extreme devotion. They will literally follow him anywhere.
So today, we see the reference to "drinking the cool aid" used to describe any group who has seemingly followed a leader without regard to rational
thought. I have seen it used to describe the Evangelical Christian Movement and their support, as a block, for George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq.
Actually, Carl Rove was the mastermind for that manipulation by pandering to their core beliefs, but to them, W. is the Messiah on earth.
When I first saw a brochure for The Loreto Bay Project, I thought they were sincere in their goal to establish a Green development in a
beautiful setting. So I toured Baja with one of my main objectives being, to check out the sight. I took one look at the lines in the sand and the
high pressure sales style and instantly decided that it was not for me. I was absolutely awestruck with the beauty of Nopolo Bay and was overwhelmed
with sadness that it would never be the same. I am still not convinced that it is impossible to pull off or that the developers are not sincere in
their stated intent. But I did not drink the cool aid.

Have seen "development" here and there. One person buys 40 acres, lives there, enjoys it as it is and makes as little impact on the land as possible.
Another person buys 40 acres, clear cuts it, subdivides it into as many lots as the law allows and sells it off. Who would you want for a neighbor?

Methinks the Cool Aid came first in this brochure. What really bugged me was the connection(s) between the right and left(or the up and down).
Certain orgs profess to be stewards and conscientious proponents set on preventing eco problems concerning wildlife.
What I see here are all the little(and I mean little) attempts at glossing over their actual mission and former testimomy with grants and the like.
This is how you appease folks who question your concerns. Do these small efforts convince people they are on the right track doing the right thing.
