| new pics of Bahia Asuncion Traditional Fiestas

It was a gorgeous day to kick off the festivities in Asuncion. It started with the misa (church service) to bless the sports fishing fleet as they
raced off to fish. The virgin of Asuncion was paraded around town with a long procession after it and she also enjoyed a trip around the island in a
panga! and the cabalgata (kind of horse rally) had over 30 horses in it...quite a sight as they arrived at the beach. The derby was a huge success
with people fishing off the rocks and beach everywhere but the govenor didn't show up to present the prize money...1st place for yellow tail was won
by an amigo of ours who is not a commercial fisherman but loves to fish...some of you may know Benjamin...he was one very happy fisherman. There were
only a few YT caught and I think Ben's winning fish was around 28 pounds. All the fish caught were cooked over the BBQ and fed the town...free food
under the tents at the beach with a live band playing, beer garden was so much fun as we watched the fishermen arrive and weigh their catches. It just
doesn't get much better.

The kids brought the small fish up to be cooked for the crowd...spot the trotters in the background??

Even though the water was cold there were tons of kids in the water enjoying body surfing and boogie boarding...our amigos camping with us surfed all
morning on a nice clean south swell. The village kids were loving all the fair rides and the live band played tons of cumbias to a packed dance floor.
It was a fine day and a good start to the fiestas. I hope jdtrotter posts some of her pics...I'll try to get some up for tomorrow too as I found my
camera batteries buried in the sand...hmmm???

The yellow tails were caught up by San Pablo trolling from pangas...the beach catagory fish were mostly cabrilla, grouper and halibut. But later in
the summer YT can be caught off the rocks here, but the water is still too cold and they are offshore a bit.

It was really cool that he won it, a local boy and someone who has a passion for fishing deserves the prize...I bet he's gonna buy lots of new gear
with it...but Juan sure missed your presence on the panga amigo...your lucky lure!

 Equalamente amiga, equalamente!

Some consolation though in taking Diver out for Sushi as he blew through town the day of the tourney, his boat in tow, jaw set to the wind, headed to
the Oregon coast for some of those wonderful Dungenes Crabs, YUM!

So much Baja and so little time!

buenos dias todos...yesterday was soooo much fun at the eventos playeros...beach party. Our guests participated in the inflatable kayak races and
Sirena's novio Martin and our pal Damon WON!!! The best part was that the prize was a 24 of tecate and a couple hats and neither of them drink

so the prize booty got passed around the family and guests gathered at the tailgate party at the beach. The final race was a close one and they won by
surfing that little kayak successfully to the beach while their opponents flipped! Last night we all went to the fair, ate yummy tacos and went to the
dance where a fabulous banda played till 4:00 am...great horn section!

We are making menudo for the crudo, some micheladas and then we'll be off to the drag races. Baja gypsy woke us up at 7:00am with a phone call...she's
gonna pay for that! hasta luego amigos.

Whew, glad THATS over...now we can get back to our normal food and alcohol consumption and 10:00 bedtimes! Here are some pics of the fun. first one is
when the horses arrived at the beach during the fishing tournament....lovely sight.

On the horse race day even the kids dress in their cowboy duds..these are Juan's nephews who were at the dance too... way after the trotters bedtime!
