Using skype to phone cellphones - problems?

Hi

I have just started using Skype to make calls to Mexico. Calls to mexican landlines (in Tijuana) were fine, no problems.

But then I phoned a cell phone in Tijuana (presumable Telcel), and although I could hear the person answering the phone, they could not hear me. Anyone else have this problem? Presumably it is Mr Slim protecting his private monopoly.

I had not had any problems in the last 3 years using SKYPE here in San Felipe until I read your post and tried it this afternoon.

I was in El Centro and called my house in San Felipe, just fine. Then I tried my water guys cell phone. First the recording said to put a 1 after the 52. So I did and connected just fine but just like you said, I could hear him but he could not hear me, and the price was .339 per minute. Yep, 34 cents was charged to a call that didn't work.

Sounds like Slim is blocking Cell phone calls after all.

Does anyone have dialing instruction for calling from a US land phone # to a Mexican cell phone? Though Skype is not technically a landline it does use a landline number. That might help.

BajaLou...You may be able at a different time....don't know your connection speed or load, but when they cannot hear you it could be your upload time. This was my problem and had to go to town and use an INTERNET café connection...:?:

I haven't tried - haven't had the need but have DSL or broadband connections.

My comment only points out that Slim is the controlling owner of ALL of the telephone companies in Mexico and if he blocks one, I would expect him to block them all.

Al G is right. Just phoned a cell phone in Tijuana again and there were no problems, everything was fine.
