Winching stories

I was thinking about those nice hoodys of Kens. It brought back memories of being stuck and useing the winch to save the day. I have a good tale but alas, I gotta go sling seafood.
I'll post the details abit later. Anyone else have a winching tale or two to yank about?

Did I ever tell you about the time I got my Jeep stuck on a deserted beach, began to dig around looking for something to make a deadman with, uncovered a body and used that?

Those ARE the details. I didn't KNOW the guy! Woody, one time my pals caught me telling the truth and I was able to lie my way out of it.

Went down to that little snorkeling beach by Punta Pescadero in East Cape with a guy from Colorado driving a new Jeep Rubicon. He'd never been to the ocean before & HAD to drive his rig on the beach.

Having a Rubicon, he drove down the surf slipface. Couldn't back up. Went forward. Waves started breaking over his hood! Was he freaked!!!

I wasn't about to drive my 2WD truck out on that beach. Took a while to jury rig 300 feet of cable & 3/4 manila across the sand to winch him out sideways.

He's still trying to find a sucker to buy a rusty jeep ...:lol:

PS: What's for supper, Sharkey??

Ok Baja, tonight I serve up a ling cod special. Your choice of coconut or sun-dried tomato/cream cheese topping. Great to see so many people still traveling around up here. Have had some gorgeous weather(after some rain).

Winching my way thru Baja! I'll go take a pic of "PWs'" custom PTO winch. It's been sitting a while. Once pulled 4 jeeps out of the muck up towards Long Lake above Bishop Ca. This modified crane hoist spool is positioned up under the bed and this pto coupled baby sports 8 speeds fwd and rev plus 150' of 5/8" hi strength cable. Enough to pull 8 Jeeps up a verticle face. Just get me anchored!:wow:

Picture this : Four old time Jeeps circa pre1970 all stuck one behind the other in a High Sierra snowmelt bog. One of my finer moments as I winched them out one X one. Then I wound my way round the bog with mouths agape as we proceeded ahead to enjoy the solitude up the mountain. Ahhhhhhhhh the good ol' days!
Wait! These are the good ol' days!!!!

Stuck my 1975 Jeep CJ5 (no winch) on top of a mountain in S. Utah, had to walk out go back a week later when the snow melted. I was afraid the deer might eat my naugahyde seatcovers but then I remembered that since deer are cousins to the nauga they probably wouldn't do it -- I found the jeep just as a left it.

We haven't used a winch on Mission Impossible...yet. But, stay tuned, because things can always get interesting. For instance, I have plenty of video showing winches pulling stuck Jeeps through the Pole Line Road outside of Mexicali.
