Fishing and Boat Licenses

In the past, I have gotten our fishing licenses and boat permit through Discover Baja Travel Club, in advance.
Is anyone aware of another phone-in or mail-in method to obtain these in advance from another location ?

I think Vagabundos Del Mar has them also, at least they did in the past.

Things change BUT, for the skittyninth time I will post: I am not a member of Vagabundos Del Mar, I don't work for them BUT the last 6 people I pointed in their direction for fishing licenses and boat permits for Mexico were not Vag members, were not required memberships and got their permits/licenses quickly thru internet/fax/mail.

I always get mine directly from CONPESCA.
Takes about a week via regular mail.

They can fax or e-mail you the form.
Give them a call.

Diver , if you go directly to the San Diego CONAPESCA office you will have to have a cashiers check for the exact amount.

They do not trust the employees there with cash.

There is a place across the street where you can buy a check for $3

Probably run by CONAPESCA =:>;)

http://conapescasandiego.org/contenido.cfm?cont=REGULATIONS#

Here is the website for CONAPESCA.
They have boat and fishing licenses by mail.

One curious thing I found out; there is no age limit for kids when fishing.
If they are in the boat when you are fishng, they need a license.
I had always thought that kids didn't need a license.
There goes another $100 !!

Vagabundos states there is a $11 processing fee per license for non members I just bought 5 licenses and they charged me $11 x 4 plus license fees. I think Vagabundos is prompt and efficient but they try to charge alot of extra charges unless you insist they don't, the extra ?? charges associated with my recent interaction were more than $100.

That's because you're not a member. Why should the rest of us members subsidize you with free permits? There IS NO FREE LUNCH! Someone has to pay for the staff, whether it's the Conapesca staff or a club. The Mexican taxpayer and your license fees pays for the Conapesca staff.

Vags charges members a processing fee of 2.00/permit, up to a maximum of 5.00 total for all the permits you order at one time. This includes any boat permits, fishing permits, FMTs, etc. They have let me order fishing permits for non-members at the member fees if I am ordering for myself. Pretty darn reasonable. Great insurance service. Knowledgeable staff. Entertaining newsletter. Well worth 30.00/year for a non-profit organization....and it can be deducted.

EDIT: Gnukid, you do realize that if you had become a member for 30.00, your total fees for all your permits would have been 5.00?

And you would have been eligible for all their other services for a year, including the newsletter?

Hook, I am a member of vagabundos and they charged me rennewl even though I hadn't expired $35, fishing license $48.20 plus $5 processing, boat permit 36.70 plus $5 processing, plus 4 licenses for my friends (just to be legal since all people on the boat must have a license for any one to fish) 48.20 and $11 extra processing per license plus I got some other things. But there alone is $54 in processing and early renewel charge $35 or at least $89 extra fees to sell me my $279 permits?

Hook if you read my message and do the math I make it clear I am a member who is unhappy being gouged, sorry for the confusion. To be clear, though I think vagabundos has an unreasonablly high fees structure that can be avoided by purchasing licenses/ins from offices en route.

Well, if what you're saying is true and I have no reason to doubt you, then the Vags must have changed their fee structure. It has always been 5.00 max on all the fees.

I called Vag and they said, they changed their policy from last year and so renewel forms sent earlier are incorrect, every fish license and boat license item has a processing fee, now $5 per for members and $11 for non-members.

I spoke to Sheryl from the Rio Vista office, who was livid I questioned the receipt's pricing because they don't provide an itemized receipt and don't track the individual charges just the total and she would have no way of knowing what happened, she was extremely rude and unpleasant and finally admitted that they just changed the policy and many people don't know and she hung up. Now I do.

Well, I'm sure this post will make it's way to the office. That's too bad she was rude but anyone can have a bad day. It's not the norm.

I would imagine there will be a big reminder to the new fee structure in an upcoming newsletter. That's a significant increase, even for members. I am going to have to rethink my participation next March when renewal comes up.

I am beginning to get the feeling that you have that effect on people.

Man I bet those folks that are going to spend a month with you on a small boat are in for a treat. They can wake up everyday to you telling them how right you are.

I want to make this clear...I do not know what you said or what she said, but I have been a member for 4 years and had many transactions with Cheryl and others in Rio Vista. No one has ever been rude to me, but of course, I am to old to know everything and treat people with that respect...
I have also had experience with you on this board and do believe I know why she hung up on you...and I am sure she did not know you were setting her up...
I have purchased many non-members license, and was charged member prices...would not blame them if they have changed that policy.
They have always sent out renewals early and have asked if I wanted to renew, when ordering around that time...have a hard time with your version of that event...
I see nothing wrong with the numbers in your break down post...sure do not match what you implied in your first post, in fact your numbers show she and Vagabundos did nothing wrong.
