Hwy 1 Road Signs
Sorry, I don't have a photo – I’m sure some one does. I always chuckle and shake my head when I see two road signs that are exactly the same installed
inches from each other. Usually an S curve sign, but there are speed limit, curva peligroso, Km markers, etc in the mix. Why is that? Is it government
workers just following orders?
Worker: "Hey boss, the drawing says we need to install it here, but there’s one there already."
Boss: "I don’t care, put in another one! We’ve got 48 signs in the truck and we gotta install them all by the end of the week."
I guess the US are the only ones wasting tax money…

Here, at the turn off from Hwy1 to San Javier, we have 2 distance signs within a couple of hundred yards of each other, one claiming 32 km and the
other 36 km. And they have been there for years.

My favorite sign is DONT LEAVE ROCKS ON THE ROAD! This is actually a reminder for those who change tires and put rocks under the tires so the car
doesnt' roll.

Opps
On my last trip I ran into a few curve signs that had lost their top support and had swung down. The arrow was pointing in the opposite direction.
For the unwashed, it would make for an interesting nighttime driving experience.

I like those intersections that have a green light and also have a STOP sign.

We have two stoplights in Loreto, one hasn't worked in the five years I have been here and the other is broken most of the time. Oh well, it gives
the newbie cops something to do. They do love those new whistles!!!

Sorry Shari, but you are misinformed. That's not why they are there. Few Mexicans carry flares, flags, folding triangle reflectors etc. When a
vehicle breaks down on the road, particularly where there is no shoulder to pull off on, The driver or someone will walk a distance back down the
road, particularly around a blind curve and stack a pile of three or more rocks on the road as a warning. Mexicans recognize stacked rocks on the
road as a signal of trouble ahead. Sometimes after the vehicle is fixed, the rocks are forgotten. Those signs are subtle reminders to drivers to
pick up after themselves.
BTW, a pair of your paisanos are headed your way on a record setting off-road trip from B.C. to Cabo on quads.

coming from the US where everything is very standardized, I love the signs that are not installed far enough from the shoulder of the road and they
have all been hit at one time or another by a truck going by.

Was in Todos Santos last week and saw many brand new street name signs while driving to Peace and Loaf... however most of them had NO writing on them.
Isnt this missing the point of a street marker. Oh well, it is Mexico after all.

Shari and Oso, thank you for this information! Now I won't have to feel guily anymore when I drive by fallen rock on blind curves and don't stop and
jump out to remove it. i really couldn't figure out the intent of this sign.
One of my favorites is north of Santa Rosalia. After passing countless signs that gruffly say "NO TIRE BASURA", there is one that sweetly says "pon
la basura en su lugar", and is decorated with musical notes. But one problem with this sign, the tune gets stuck in my head
