Nomads, what is your favorite music for driving through Baja? And is it different than what you listen to before leaving or after you've been here a while?

For those who only fly in, what do you most want to hear when you get here?

For the carretera- audiobooks.
The dirt road home stretch- can't hear much but the sound of rattling teeth.

The music really begins when we arrive!

A recent addition to my playlist: 10,000 Maniacs. I'll look them up now on Rhapsody.com to see what they sound like. Well to hear what they sound like - you know what I mean.

Cartunes

Last December 21st, as we trailered our HiLo down the Cerro del Infierno (Hill of Hell) on our way to Loreto, my husband said, "Put your Linda Ronstad CD on, Honey"

"Canciones de Mi Padre"
and "Mas Canciones"

Que suave!! We sang our hearts out! :dudette:

For driving around LTO, I love Los Lonely Boys 2006 release "Sacred".

I love those sounds too, Jerry. Imagine if you could record it and take it back to Oregon with you:lol:

They play the Texas Tornadoes and Santana from time to time. But mostly, I'd say no Mexican music on this station. I don't think I would ever play any Mexican music for my own listening pleasure while driving.

I'd listen to Mexican music if they had a version of Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire.

Ola,
I learned reently of Habib Koite & Bamada, bought the CD on the way down in October. Very cool and
m e l l o w-- I smiled through LA traffic. I'm going to check out the ones you mentioned, I'd like to have more African.

Loretana,
Ronstad in Spanish is gorgeous! Los Lonely Boys? Great name-- need to look into this one.

Packoderm,
My daughter loved KPIG when she lived in Santa Cruz. That playlist could keep you dancing til the cows come home!

805gregg,
I listen to lots of Latin and Mexican! Old classics like Los Panchos and Trio Montealban when driving on bumpy roads, norteņo driving in town, and at home. Lots of Cuban stuff, Mana, Elephante.

Here's how you can sample songs in their complete length. Go to rhapsody.com and enter whatever you want to listen to. They most probably have it. Just enter los loney boys in the Listen Now box, and then hit the link for Los Lonely Boys/Latin Rock, then you'll see Senorita pop up as one of the choices. You get to listen to 25 full length songs each month, but you have to register first if you want more than 30 second samples.

We have one of those little MP3 players ( 1GB ). I loaded it with about 300 songs, all kinds, and on longer trips, set it at random, and let'r rip.:P

Paula--I saw Mana live three times this year--once in San Diego and two nights in a row in Oakland. They are one of the best live acts in any kind of music. Great staging, effects, performance, musicianship, and above all, great songs.

I'll have to ask Santa for one of those. I leave for Baja on the 26th, so that will not allow much time for downloading. It looks like I'll just be flipping over my Junior Brown and Van Morrison tapes over and over. I'm a bit stuck in the stone age.

I'm in the low-tech club too. I am proficient at buying and playing CD's and I can work a radio. But not a radio through a computer, although the KPIG streaming thing looks possible.

but ipods? downloading??? Pass me a rusty nail, judy, before I have a panic attack just thinking about it!
