Thanks for the welcome

Hi David , I've been going to baja for around 10 yrs , most of my time in the ligui area. Love the people and the beaches in this area. Diving the islands is my pastime here.

I live in very cold Fraser co. It,s been a really hard winter this year, lots of wind and snow.

Looking forward to learning more about the baja thru this forum

Thanks again everyone for all the input , hope to meet some of you on my travels thru baja.

Welcome aboard ligui!

This ship rocks and rolls, but if you can hang on you will get plenty during the ride!

Here is a photo of a piece of the original mission at Ligui in the arroyo, taken soon after flash floods from Hurricane Juliette ate away at it... San Juan Bautista de Ligui Y Malibat (1705-1721)

Here's a photo of the view at nearby Ensenada Blanca...

ensenada blanca is 20 miles south of loreto , ligui is the village where the road exits the highway. 2 more kms and you are there.

Ensenada Blanca is south of Loreto. Take the Ligui turnoff south of town (and south of Puerto Escondido), make a right a ways down the dirt road, through the small village to the checkpoint gate, then on to the beach. It is great for kayaking. Besides the nice beach, it is a short paddle to the small islands shown in DK's photo, which is from the Puerto Escondido perspective. Around the point to the south there is a long stretch of rocky, undeveloped coastline, with a small hidden cove and beach a short paddle away.

The area is also known as Bahia Candeleros.

SEMARNAT has prohibited further development of the beach here in order to protect sea turtles. But FONATUR has it zoned for high density development, and the checkpoint is for the Villas Group, a timeshare developer planning 2500 units there.

Soon you will be able to buy a timeshare there. Cool, eh?

not.

Where is that Danzante Resort in relation to Ensenada Blanca? Is it still in business?

Danzante resort is on the hill directly above playa ensenada blanca. As far as I know it is for sale, and still in business. The owners are renovating a nice old home in Loreto. Well, Loreto IS north of ensenada blanca:D
