Nomads Deliver the Goods and Start Something Great!

As you've seen in recent posts, there has been a concerted effort to find bikes and bring them down here (Punta Banda) for kids in the poverty-stricken outlying areas. In hopes of not offending anyone by not mentioning the names of all Nomads who were involved, the process starts with Grover, who rehabs the bikes. The call goes out for delivery to Baja, and people like Bajadock, Bajacat, XRPhlang and others pick them up at Grover's in SoCal and bring them to us or to a convenient drop-off point, like Cafe Bohemia. Big Mike, Bajadock, Bajabound 2005 and I then take them to Agua Viva Children's Home in Maneadero.

The following is the text of an email this morning that I received from Agua Viva. Everyone who supported this effort, to whatever extent, deserves a huge THANK YOU. Read this:

"Hi, Vince...
.......... you should see what has happened as a result of Nomad's bicycle "drive". Mark has given out all that you have brought, of course, and then he and Bill began repairing bikes we had here to give out also to kids not on the list.
That mushroomed into the idea that if all the kids that had an old bicycle would bring it here, Bill would take parts from all to make bicycles and give those out also. Well, here they came, some carrying just a frame, some a frame with one tire and to top it off, one little girl came with a bicycle seat only to get in on getting a bike built!!
However, they are kind of at a standstill now until they can get some parts...most critical right now I guess is tube patch glue. Anyway if you could pass this along to those who have contributed, we would appreciate it. There are a whole bunch of very happy kids around now with greater mobility due to the generosity of you and others like you. Nomads definitely "rock" as they say, or maybe in this case "roll" !! ok ok I'll leave the humor to someone else.

God bless,
Arlene

Thanks, Diane and John. Wish I could say I started this, but there are others, like Grover, who deserve a lot more credit.

Yea Grover has helped us out also in our campaign. Besides, he is just a really nice guy. But like you, we get the reward of seeing the smiles.

Good Luck
Diane

Hats off to Grover and the Trotters as well as all of the others who are picking up on these wonderful projects.

I hope that at some point there will be a PayPal account set up for those Nomads who are not able to contribute parts but who would love to donate some cash!

I love to see those smiling and determined faces! Saludos Nomads!!

I want to tell you that helping deliver these bikes is such a wonderful experience, to see the children gathering around, those who have their bikes already and those who are waiting, the smiles and joy in their faces is wonderful to behold, I thank those of you who have donated and brought the bikes down for the wonderful experience that you have given us here in Punta Banda to help out the children here who may never have had the chance to have a bike.
