Capt. George Home

Hi to all my Nomad Brothers and Sisters!

Operation took place on Tuesday, a 3 1/2 inch incision, herniation was in a less then optimal location. Released on Thursday and got home yesterday.

All seems to have gone well. First walk was a killer:o but each one following gets better and better. Hope for a rapid recovery and home to Baja by end of this month.:tumble: Time will tell.

I thank you all for your advice, suggestions, and most of all, caring! The board was a great boost to my morale..Was a little leery, I've been lucky, this was the first time operated on in 62 years!

George

Glad that part is over for you. Now just do the therapy religiously and get back down here where you belong.

Good luck to you Captain and may you have a rapid recovery. 50 years old and still no operations on me besides tonsils as a kid.

Capt G: I know what you mean..had similar procedure a few years back. Rupture. First few walks were not fun. Stretch. WALKING is very important. Work on your abs. You are very fortunate to have been so healthy. I feel good today although the scar tissue reminds me every morning when I wake up that I had the surgery. Other than that, I feel good. Good luck to you!

George---I have been off the board a while. How did you rupture yourself? I bet it was when you were trying to lift your spirits. You ex-firemen need to build yourselves up after a lifetime of leisure at the firehouse. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

think the first injury was while "at liesure" in the South Bronx Firehouse, E-42, 9000 runs a year. Seems the natives had a habit of booby-trapping the vacants...

they would cut a hole in the floor and lay lino over it...I stepped on one while making a search and dropped 9 ft to the fifth floor..landed flat on my feet on a cross beam...think that mighta hurt my back a tad, eleven days in traction.

the final action that led to this recent and very large herniation was wiping my butt! How's that for a lotta crap?

3 1/2" incision needed for this microdiscectomy, herniated in a less then desoreable location...had to do a bit more digging..be sore a little longer, and maybe a bit moretime to rehab...but, Baja, here we come!

Thanks for all your suggestions and good wishes. cap'n g

George, if you see Fishin' Rich and 'Roja' when you get back to Abreojos, ask him to check in and let his old friends know if he's having fun or what not... His last post was 2 1/2 years ago: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=15629#pid1321...

Here's a photo I took of Rich and 'elgatoloco' when we all went to Guadalupe Valley in 2001...

Capt. George,
I am happy you got the hard part over with. I won't say "it is all downhill from here".....that just isn't right. At the same time, I won't wish for you that "it is all uphill from here" ......that just isn't right either. Well, you know what I mean; get well soon and get back to Abreojos. I pass through there on my way to La Bocana often and hope to see you there. :bounce:

toneart

you have probably driven right by our casa. just down the block from fishinrich. kind of multicolored and just had a 30X40 detached garage built. Are you anywhere near Scott in Bocana?? Everyone in Bocana knows me as Vikingo.

hope to be there end of month and stay into November..stop by.

The pain I had from the P-nched nerves caused by the herniation were almost unbearable so I'm glad that's behind me...hope it never returns to that degree..I'm sure I'll still be plagued by back pain off and on, but the common variety I can live with.

I am certain we will be paying a visit up at Ascuncion this summer, maybe for a couple/three days??

gracias amigos

I don't live in La Bocana. I visit friends there. I know Scott. I also know exactly which house is yours. Thank you for the invitation. I probably won't be through there in November though.

wish you well Geo' I had back surgery in October and have been released from the pain. I have been a wildland firefighter for 30 years and have "lived" with pain for half of that, after the physical therapy I joined the local gym and hired a personal trainer. I have always done my own routine without weights but am glad I tried the gym. I am now back on the fireline and able to earn the living that lets me spend winters in Baja.
Be strong,
Chino
