Reaching Out
Hello Nomad Amigos and Amigas
Some of you reading this know us personally, and/or, professionally – most know us as the posters that own CABO MAGIC Sportfishing in Cabo San Lucas.
This is why I am posting here – perhaps some of you will be inspired to see whats going on over there, and, jump in.
Have received communication including U2U, emails and phone calls regarding a ‘reaming’ of us on the Trip Advisor board.
Keri from Pyramid Resorts & I have previously communicated about this as she knows what it is like to be on the recipient side of an anonymous
post like this.
Background Summary:
This TA discussion forum nonsense started in 2005 – then and now, Trip Advisor is regularly recommended on the national show by radio talk show host
Clark Howard – At that time Trip Advisor was sold from one gi-normous conglomerate to another – with absolutely no oversight on the discussion boards.
At the time, we received phone calls asking if we were hiring “word weasels” to sit on discussion boards and post in our favor. EDIT to say "We
replied no that is not how we conduct our business."
Then, someone began a thread asking for Fishing Charter Company recommendations and some other seemingly innocent enough questions. Shortly after,
he began posting about how fantastic a particular company was, saying he had been fishing with them for years and years and suggested visitors speak
with Heather and/or Vince. Within the first year or so, that company which had recently changed ownership, then began to replace very old & worn
wood charter boats with new-er ones.
Posts stating that he had been visiting Cabo for 30 years may not be verifiable or legitimate – however it certainly laid the foundation for readers
who know no differently to believe everything they were reading. One point that can be confirmed to be absolutely 100% not true, that he tells
people is that he knows Tommy Garcia very well. In fact, he has never even met Tommy.
It is unfortunate there are people that resort to childish and often defamatory behavior to forward their business using the anonymity provided by
& with the power of the internet.
It’s our caring customer service that helped hundreds of people in hurricane aftermath in areas of Cabo San Lucas, Cabo Pulmo, La Playita, Mulege, Los
Barriles, Louisiana, and Missisippi; that purchased materials to build homes for people in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico; that has taken care of all
details to bury many people whose family in Mexico did not have the means to do so; donated thousands of dollars in toys & clothing to Dia de
Reyes in Tijuana; that donated proudly for the Bicycle team fund organized by John & Diane in Bahia Asuncion; that donated money to the fund for
Coco of Cocos Corner despite not personally knowing who he is, or to the fund for Manolo even tho we don’t know him other than from Shari’s postings.
We sponsor 3 youth soccer teams who have hopes and dreams of making it to the pros. We don’t do it with fanfare – we just do it.
Our business model was created from that which matters to us.
There are more than 10,000 VIP CABO MAGIC clients who have enjoyed superior customer service and there are many more scheduled to do so as well in the
future. Saying that we set new standards in Cabo San Lucas is not just lip service . One standard that we established is concerning double booking
of boats – maybe some of you remember, or, have experienced that deceptive practice?
Some callers test my patience with adamant insistence for answers to questions that ask me to break the rules of our business, or predict weather
conditions. I cannot today predict what the seas will be like October 11-18. I can’t tell anyone what the seas will be like next week – and nether
can the meteorologists from the weather. Many who call often learn far more from me about climatology to understand why I cannot answer them.
We do not double book boats - period. Therefore, I do not tell a caller what specific boats “are available” unless they are repeat guests who know
our systems. I’ve learned from experience this necessitates my parenthetic comment that unless the inquiring caller is ready to confirm with
deposit, anything can change should someone else do so first – in other words “First deposit received removes a boat from our calendar of
availability” Yes it’s a mouthful but its simple, straightforward and most of all, it’s honest.
I am reaching out to any of you who like to take on a justice cause to contact TripAdvisor and give them your opinion on the discussion forums.
With no monitoring, no regulation, no administration, and loosely enforced posting guidelines, other than the ‘hall-monitor’ type regulars whose posts
may or may not come from a sincere place of caring & sharing, the TA board is a place for under the radar business promotions amongst other thinly
veiled borderline behavior.
Lastly, Tommy has asked that I say this in his words: The same rude driver that will use his vehicle to cut you off, flip you off & cuss at you,
is the same person that will use that forum to post these types of complaints.

Although I have never fished with Cabo Magic, I can attest to their business integrity.
In September, 2006, Hurricane John caused lots of damage in Baja Sur. Two businesses (that I am aware of) set up funds to get help immediately to
hurricane victims: Cabo Magic and Sharksbaja. While the good people at CaboMagic are located in Cabo San Lucas, they quickly realized that Mulege and
other towns in Baja Sur needed help too.
Our BajaNomad board was the only place online where we Mulege residents could get any information, thanks to Marv & Cathy, who somehow managed to
keep their satellite system above water. BajaNomad was where CaboMagic and Sharksbaja (with Mulege connections) put out the urgent plea for donations.
They set up funds through PayPal, and they got it done!
While I don't wish to join the Trip Advisor Board in order to post this, maybe some Nomad who does subscribe to that board could copy and post my
testimonial.
