Picture of Tiles at old Mission Hotel in Loreto

Someone asked me for this and since I cant remember who, I thought that I would post it for all to enjoy.
Anyone else have photos of art that has been lost due to development, changes of ownership etc.

Oh! so many memories are brought to surface by these Photos~!!

The women to the immediate right is Virginia Oremus . Virginia and her Husband built a Sailboat at Moss Pt. in Calif. and started around the World with another Couple.
The other boat had problems and went into repair in La Paz.
The Oremus'S decided to sail the Sea of Cortez, which they did for 5 years deciding that they were in Paradise and did not need to Sail around the World!!

After 5 years touching every place they could on the Cortez, they bought a small trail and decided to "Go Ashore". On the very day they were to move off the Boat, Mr. Oremus died of a Heart Attack while operating his Volkswagon Bus. He hit the Seawall!!

His Wife Virginia, May she rest in Peace, moved into the Trailer and became a regular at the Mission.
One day I took my Father -in-Law over to visit and fix her Screen Door. As we left He told me "I am going to Marry that beautifull Lady, Which he Did! Moving a Trailer onto the Property behindAlfreado"s Place. Later they returned to the States and had a Great 8 Years of Married Life.

Virginia pasted away at 97 years of age while in a Nursing Home in Florence Oregon.

Vinciente was the Bartender that served me a "Two Eyed Tequilla" on many occasions.

The Tile inspired my Wife too have a Tile on the entrance to Rancho Sonrisa

Oh! those were the Days!! Thanks again for the Memories!

David: Many years ago thew Mission had a Chef named Arturo who could cook some of the best Quail I have ever eaten,
On Friday nites he would have a special and all of us ameican residents would eat and Dance .
Bill and Betty Riffee, Sandy Harrison, Margret Kimbrough, Fred Shields, Tio Don O"Niel and one of his Girl Friends{Before he met Ann} Don Rosendahl, Ben Benner, Jamie Parker, Von.and a couple I have forgotten>

For many years we were the only American residents of Loreto.

A few years later Arturo got a Job at Gurrero Negro at the place near the Malamarino Cafe and Trailer Park.

Oh. Loreto has changed, some good, some Bad!

Good stuff to remember the past...

My first trip to Loreto was in 1973, before the highway was completed... stayed at the Playas de Loreto... was very nice then!

(in 1966, the main transpeninsular road went through Comondu from south of Concepcion Bay... why we missed seeing Loreto then). My dad flew in with Ed Tabor on his DC-3 out of Calexico a few times to stay at the Flying Sportsman Lodge in the late 1960's.

In 1976 we had a travel trailer and stayed at the RV park in the Flying Sportsman Lodge compound... also at Puerto Escondido when you could camp right on the bay!

Vincente now is working at Hotel Salvterrra, acorss form the Pemex station.. His wife Rosa still runs Campos Ground Services for the airport (But with fewer flights:o)
His nephew, Jimie, opened Stoker's Reef bar just off the Malacon..

Arturo.. moved over the GN, and was cheif at the old resturant next to El Morro Hotel (on the west side)..but that closed many year's ago:?:

As for Skeet's "Friday Group" what a party.. He remembered to mention my Pops in that gritty bunch:lol:

I have some other images to post later..

Thanks for the Photos;
Boy Howdy, Did we have some fun when Von first arrived in Loreto!!

Jamie and Marie Parker built a place on Jordon, I bought Joane Fontiane"s place next door where the old IceHouse stood., Charlie Leech came in , then Tony Kittenger and the Street Filled up!
You could hear the Music from the La Cabanna all the way over to the Hotel Oasis.
Jamie Parker made a deal with someone and built the First Condos directly to the South of the Mission.
And the Music and Dancing was great!!, The fishing was very much like it is today, Lots of Dorado, YellowTail, Bait! It was just in a little Closer.

After the Road Opened things started to change, TV came in, we started getting Cottage Cheese from the States.
I started too go into Business selling Girls Bras and Panties.Everytime a Van came in loaded with Panties and Bras, the Girls lined up for Blocks!!

I am rambling, Try to control my Good Thought of Baja .

Thanks for the Info/Photos. I have some of the Malocon before it was filled in and the Sea Wall built.

One nite we were having a Party at Gail's Place prior to going to the Misson. I was escorting Sandy Harrison when she stepped into a Hole in the Middle of the Street. It was filled with Septic Juice. We were alone, what a Sight watching little ole Skeeter trying to get Great Big Blond Sandy out of that Sewer Hole!!

Course we had a couple of Beers before we started for the Party. That always helped!

Hope to see you next year. When will you be in Loreto?
