This just in from down Baja Sur

HOLA BERNIE...HERE IS A PARTIAL MESSAGE I GOT FROM DOWN MEXICO WAY. THIS IS THE LITTLE VILLAGE OVER BY THE PUNTA COLARADA HOTEL. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE MARINA PROJECT THEY WERE PUTTING UP THE LAND FOR OR NOT BUT I THINK IT IS.

Last Tuesday went to the GRAND OPENING of CABO RIVIERA in La
Rivera. What a SHOW they put on. They pulled out all the stops....A
fortune was spent on this event. The booze FLOWED and food everywhere. That
evening they had CLARENCE CREDWATER REVIVAL. They actually built a
temporary amphitheater and there were 1,500 people watching it. It ended with a HUGE
fireworks show. They have great gifts of canvas bags with a wonderful beach sheet and cap. It was set up beautifully. They have been working on the grounds. They are putting in all of the canals now.
This will be the FIRST development in ALL of Mexico where you will be able to have your home built on a canal and you can have a boat up to 75 feet long. There is a huge marina, too. There will be a large shopping area that will be open to the public and two MAJOR hotels.

One is the MANDRIN and they will be starting to build shortly. There is a beach club, golf club and there will be NO homes built around the golf course. There will be two area that will have condos. They have the model and it looks fantastic. It they pull this off it will boost business in LaRivera.

Could this be or is it just for a laugh????

CLARENCE CREDWATER? How 'bout Creedence Clearwater? Wonder who Tiger will have at the grand opening of "Punta Brava."

It must be hard from someone of Osprey's sensitivity to be objective and unbiased with the destruction and almost complete obliteration of a culture and way of life that comes with the development and commercialization of an area that was, at one point, so beautiful and complete that you found it hard to believe that you had the rare privelege of experiencing that life and time only to see it head down the same road of extinction and decay that is displayed in the developed areas of the baja peninsula. It is unfortunate that Bernie, who also shows a lot of sensitivity to the beauty of the Baja lifestyle, inadvertently rubbed some salt in the wound of Osprey, albeit in an unsuspecting and innocent manner and then Hook would probably not completely understand the issue at play here as his choice of paradise is the crowded and developed area of San Carlos, Sonora.

Above is the email message I got regarding Cabo Riviera development. I got an invite to the party, which was rescinded, and then extended again. I left Los Barriles on the 15th, so missed the party. Was a little too pricey for me anyway.

Once they hire the Vandenberg flying pig squadron as the entertainment, Cabo Riviera will be taking off faster than an F-18 on full burner.
It's either the flying pigs, or monkeys in jockey outfits riding on dogs - I love those.

What is really scary is that they are about to get an infusion of highly motivated, very glib, and extremely persuasive salesmen from the mortgage banker environs in the states.
I think I just bought two condos on the beach in San Ignacio....or maybe Tecate....

I tend to sympatize w/ Osprey (only because that is my favorite bird :)), but, I would like to hear from Baja Bernie.

Perhaps a relative stole his computer to market this property. Or, perhaps, his computer was hacked by would-be Baja developers who have cracked the Baja Nomad security system, and posted in his name? Pues, una Chupacabra? It could happen. (By the way, the brewery in Mexicali has a great Tall Boy (Well, large bottle), called Chupacabra Ale. Muy Tasty.

Pero, Bernie, Hmmmmmn... Inquiring minds want to know. :?:

Peace, Love , y Tacos de Pez.

Maybe when it comes to me Bernie is a wound/salt guy, who knows. But on the subject of the project: nothing I could say on this board about the project would add one more potential buyer or disuade one. About the party: there is a rumor going around that they spent 900K on the party. All the invitees I talked to said "it was the best party they ever attended, anywhere." Another rumor is that the party was to show the marina hotel anchor, the toney Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, they had lots of dough and class to match. The builder, Groupo Mar, were patent land pimps on the other 8 year old plus development near here called Lighthouse Point Estates so this new cash and class is a pleasant change/diversion with them, at least in my mind. Hard for us to be for or against such powerful developers. We are just witnesses.
Here's a great video of what they think the project will look like when complete: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiH_R1x-BCI

Normally I wouldn't go into this much Southland news for you because Baja Nomad members are 90 plus % naturally interested in things northern, where they live, work, play, travel but the chatter told me you may have wanted more info. Indulge me.

I can accept all you state here (though San Carlos is less developed than Loveland, if we're comparing "paradise quotients" on an annual basis, Jim), but to shoot the messenger?

I repeat my question...........just what is the crime in revealing an email about a purported event in Baja? He even stipulated it was from a second source; didn't claim it as his own and didn't vouch for it's veracity.

What's TRULY unfortunate is that a writer of great caliber would attempt to stem the free flow of information on a forum.........exactly the antithesis of what a forum and WRITING is about. And that others would support him in the name of their own moralistic view of development in Baja.

Osprey's public punishment doesn't fit the "crime" in this case, IMO.

Hey! Don’t really know what inquiring minds wish to know…

All I know is that I sorta like Baja but I don’t really claim to know her…after all I have only known the lady for a few days….about 45 years worth. Every time I begin to get comfortable with her and the folks who live there someone takes offense at something I say. For those of you who have read any of the four books I have written about my Lady Baja and the people who are her heart I end up learning that I know even less than I ‘thought’ I did every time I turn around and I do a lot of spinning when I am with her.

So! Heck! I got that little piece (peace) from a good fishing buddy of that sensitive old bird who challenged my title. Shucks! It has been so long since I last posted here that I had almost forgotten I even had it.

So sorry if I ruffled anyone’s feathers………..I guess I was mistaken when I thought it was just way to funny to be true…

I’ll be down to Norte for a week over Thanksgiving and then I’ll be in the East Cape for a week or so shortly after the new year.

Osprey is correct about one thing I have not been spending nearly as much time with my Lady since I sold my home in La Salina…only got to keep the damn thing for 26 fun filled years.

I do want you all to know that I am working very hard to see that my income fails to keep up with my needs…as I know it already has for a few souls who feel stuck in Baja Sur. (I know that was NOT a sensitive thing to say…But, then I need to take a shot every now and then…just like a few others)

Hope that answers the question….

Oops! As far as being a correspondent…well that is up to the guy who runs this place ‘cause he is the one who saw fit to give it to me.

Baja Bernie

Hook is right. The fish eagle picking on Bernie over this is a classless and tasteless act of asperity. Who died and made him the arbitor of what passes here as tidbits of interest for any who care to read?

there was no plaudit in Bernie's forwarding of this info. People always are adding news they hear to this forum. Big deal. so you have to attack a nice old guy over it? Bernie has never attacked anyone on this forum i can recall.

The whiner's rebuke is execrable.

too bad the chick is facing the wrong way.:bounce:

a Q for anyone - when they show the live scenes of canals and yachts - where is that taken? Florida some place?:wow:
