Brujas

There was an interest in Brujas/Curanderas/ and spooky stuff on here a while back. Here's what I heard.
The family that I am neighbors with have lived in that area for a long time and built all the family ranchos by hand. They are a very respected family and he is from the mountains, she from the beach area in El Cardonal.
While talking one day some stories were brought up regarding some incidents.
While Juanita was growing up in El Cardonal, there was a lady that would appear every so often and heal people. She was fairly well known around there but lived way up in the mountains somewhere. She was never seen coming into town, she was just there. But she would heal the people and then be gone. And she was never seen leaving but there would always be an owl, or a coyote, or a fox in the vicinity of where she had last been. Always.
Here's another. I apparently live on a 7 mile haunted driveway. While driving home from town one night with her 5 year old son, Juanita felt a sharp bite on her leg and screeched to a halt grabbing little Pedro to protect him from whatever had gotten into the car.
She searched the car and found nothing. No scar or bite marks but she swore it felt like a dog or animal biting her. So she went home and got her husband and they went back to the exact spot in the arroyo that the incident occured to look for tracks. Instead of tracks, which there weren't any, there were five small gold nuggets. And that's it.
Then, She was driving home another night alone when she felt a hand on her head. And then it touched her arm and again, no one was there. When they went back, small black rocks in the exact spot, which they don't know what they are.
Son number one is now 25 or so and driving. One evening heading into town he saw a person dressed all in white walking along the road, except, their feet were a foot above the ground. And as he pulled up, she was gone.
These stories were told to me and from the look in their eyes, they most certainly believe them. I don't know what to believe but it certainly adds a touch of excitement to a road that you already have a 50% chance of getting stuck on without any help from beyond!
For those that feel they need to continue to make snide
remarks Stephanie, these are posted for those that showed an interest on some posts a while back.

Great story JR!

This is maybe related to the unusual things that have been reported at El Tomatal (Baja's E T) by M and others, and was heavily discussed on Amigos about three years ago http://vivabaja.com/et

In high school (mid 70's) in Escondido, there was a story about a 'white lady' as you described the one in Baja, that was seen out near Questhaven by Elfin Forest. At Halloween it was popular to drive out there to see the 'white lady' and scare our friends.

I liked those stories.

There is a Curandero, on the road to Maneadero, just after the Golf Course, you turn right. People from all over, wealthy people, go to him and his son.

You have to get there before 7:00am on the weekends, people are in line to see him.

He has helped several people we know, mostly with bad backs, arthritis, sore joints, bad knees, etc.

I'll dig up his name and the exact directions if anyone is interested.

PAPPA MURILLO-LORETO

Avil Murillo was soldier during the last War in Mexico and was given Land which is now Known as "San Nicolas" located North of Loreto. It is reported that he a Total of 55 children.
His present day sons and Daughter ALVIRO,ALLEJO,ARMOND,ENRIQUE,MIGUEL,JORDAN AND ALICIA .

Around the campfires of many years ago he related several stories regarding the Spirits etc.

One of his stories related as follows: That the "Gold' supposedly buried by "Cortez" in the Mountains near Loreto had been moved to a Location off of Punta Chivato.
That Gold was guarded by a Spirit of the Mountains in the form of a giant Shark.

On the Hot summer Nights most of the residents of San Nicolas would move up to the Mesa to sleep away from the bugs. Pappa Murillo would always take a stick and draw a circle around his Sleeping location on the ground to keep Snakes from visiting during the Night.

At 80 years of age he was the only man in the village that would climb the tallest Palm to trim the "Ojas" for use on the Palapas.
He stated that he was protected by the "Spirit of the Great shark that Protected the Site of the Gold buried off of Punta
Chivato.

Jr, I wouldn't worry too much; maybe the bruja who haunts your driveway owns a tow-truck (or a tow-broom, whatever the case may be).

Yes, that's it ! Pio Arce and his son. Hwy. 1 going south out of Ensenada, past the Golf course turnoff, which now has a stop light, first turnoff -dirt road- to the right, go down the dirt road only a bit, he is on the right hand side in a small blue house, He used to be closed Sundays and Mondays.

Did I give those directions right, Don Jorge?

********************************

There is another one, I don't know if he is still alive, at Playa Coyote. You have to follow the trail by the hot springs, over the hill and then down, he has a little shack on the beach there.

He used to charge 100 pesos a visit.
