Emergency Forum?....is it time for one?

I was thinking about last hurricane season.....and now with the missing persons posts it brought this to mind also.

Should there be an EMERGENCY fourm on here?

Last hurricane season we had many requests for help reguarding persons and property during/after the storms.

From time to time there is also requests for help locating missing persons.

And of course broken down vehicles needing rescue.

BAJA NOMADS has become "the" place for help on these issues.:saint:

I am thinking about a forum that is at the top of the list so everybody would see it. At times these requests get "lost" when no responses come in for a while and they move down . It would also be easier for new members seeking help to know where to post as many requests come from "first timers"

Your thoughts please.....

I'm thinking it's a non-issue, but was waiting-out the replies - and reading the thread.

Jim notes it keeps threads towards the top, but from my experience many of the Nomads here - or just myself sometimes - will bump these threads back to the top to keep them visible.

Also (for better or worse), most "newbies" almost always target the General Discussion forum if they're concerned with visibility, because (I assume) it has the appearance of the highest use/traffic/etc. So, I am not certain there's an issue regarding which forum they should post to.

I move a lot of posts out of the General Discussion forum (and a few from others) every week into more appropriate forums (usually the Q&A forum is where they go though - someone asking a question).

I'll keep reading further input/replies.

Great idea!
What would constitute an emergency?
Flash floods or missing cat?
A part for a car or a blood donation?
I'm leaving tomorrow, do I need a passport?
Were do I find an Epipen in Baja?
Lot for sale? Stolen plane? Were to buy viagra?
Missing person? Missing dog? ATM location? Expired FM3?

VERY GOOD POINT---then Doug would have to decide what is and what is not an emergency and spend more time moving threads, and boy, that could open a can of worms.:yes::yes:

Maybe what Doug said about bumping the thread is enough---it does keep in on the first page.

I am sure an "emergency" means different things to different people.......

real ones....
missing person
disabled vehicle
fire/flood
in jail
injured

not.....
beer not cold
missing dog
lost money buying condo
ripped off at gas station

IMO the "General Forum" does well enough for emergencies.. (hurricanes, car trouble, beer supply running low, missing people, etc.. etc..

The way it is the real emergencies sort themselves out from the non-emergencies. As Doug pointed out.. people tend to bump or reply a lot to stuff that needs extra attention.

Most [me,anyway] here monitor the board by watching "Todays Posts" which gives the latest entry for all forums as they are posted. Nothing posted is lost to the observor. Everything posted, EVERYTHING, is at the top of the list. It makes so much more sense than looking around, forum to forum, for the latest news.
Emergency news is foremost in importance but it will be seen by everybody who hangs around "Todays Posts"....not just those who are looking for emergencys.
If you don't know of what I speak, look at the top of the page...Todays Posts.

Why not leave it as is and when an emergency arises it gets bumped to the top until resolved.

I have been laying low but I thought I would jump in here. I agree with Doug. Nomads are at their best when responding to emergencies. Many are in position to help. The emergencies also get bumped to the top often because so many Nomads are concerned.

For me, I am no longer interested in exchanging dialog with "know it alls" who actually don't. I have also been stalked and driven out. But, for information I need, I will continue to lurk and post when appropriate.
