I just fed him some bonita and he ate 3 peices which is a good sign...he has the most delicate little black feet that seem too tiny for his body...he
is a very regal fellow.

Por favor, Nomads with big bird books: I can't tell the difference between a Royal tern and an Elegant tern. Anybody?

elegent terns have a longer black crest...this guys is shorter
also have more slender beaks...this guy's beach is a doozie
and less orange than the royal tern's who's is quite orange....foresters and caspian terns have a black tip on the beak.

Birds like music. To aid in his recovery, maybe you should play "Tern! Tern! Tern!" by the Byrds.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUworKXBzdE
Hopefully he won't take a tern for the worse.
Sorry.

ah Camote....you are a wise owl....Queenie...our royal guest was very soothed by this tune which was very good timing as she was a bit miffed by this
rascally kitty.

Queenie is thouroughly enjoying her stay with us....she could barely stand this morning and has been dining on sashimi (without the wasabi) whenever
she snaps her beak...she held court with all our visitors who came to visit her throughout the day...took a stroll around the castle....came back to
where I was seated...looked at me...held her head back and opened her beak....more sashimi please dahling...
Looks like she may recover to visit other kingdoms....or is it queendoms?
It may be that she is but a princess as she is quite small, and short too with such tiny feet...a delicate "thumb" and the coolest yellow toenail on
her middle toe.

Queenie had a restful night after holding court with a few more Nomads who arrived for the festivities sunday....everyone wants to feed her...she is
certainly the center of attention. It's neat to watch people around wild animals...their fasincation with seeing something so lovely, so exotic up
close and in our living room!
She seems a bit stronger today but still falls over if she moves too fast when she tries to avoid the cat. Her beak is much softer than I
imagined...it is very light like a weak finger nail...sound like plastic when she snaps it open and shut begging for food.....I think she might be
young, the way she puts her head back when she wants lunch.

Royal Turn
I have a good friend who is a famous birder....author and one of those guys who sign on to National Geographic ships and expeditions as a nature
lecturer. He says you have a Royal Turn....it is bigger and heavier than an Elegant Turn...with an orange bill.
He says the reason the bird is weak is probably parasites in its gut....might check that with a vet.
He also says that your living room is gonna smell like a bird colony pretty fast because these beautiful little guys poop all the time!
I assume you have watched Turns fish....it is a lesson in flight that no human can learn...they are absolutely beautiful and quick....When they are in
flight I think the vision of them belongs in an art museum.

thank you bucko...yes, I thought Queenie was a royal tern....and I figured the parasite thing was the problem too as she was weak...ask your buddy
what I might give her for parasites....no vet here....and if she might survive? maybe i can email him?? also would like to know if she is a young
lady?
yes, she is a constant pooper all right...I can barely keep up but we like it that she can move about freely and not be in a box. Incidently...when
she first arrived...her doo doo was black and after rest and eating, it is now the normal white with a little black turlette in the middle...good
sign??
