im that young australian shipwrecked!
hola nomads! i just wanted to drop everyone a line, im the young australian girl shipwrecked in bahia asuncion, who sheri's pretty much litterally
pulled out of the water .. everyone on here has been so fantastic - so id just love to update everyone...
right now im house sitting sheri's mini farm here, and next week seeking some solutite and healing in san roquee - the fishing village 'round the
bend'. this whole ordeal is still pretty sureal, to have your life long dream a reality, and lose it all so tragically - and literally left
pennyless??? well its going to make a bloody good bar story one day right!!!!
I remember listening to my friends brian's story in seattle last year about his boat burning into the water in la paz, and his story of the boat being
replaced by his friends and family and fellow cruisers... a lovely little cruiser aptly named 'phoenix' with my jaw dropped on the ground .. he's now
offered to let me sail phoenic, and maybe potentially buy her, back on track for my solo circumnavigation ??????..., sooooooooo im cheekily asking if
anyone would like to donate a little to this REALLY good cause??????? the pay pal account we have set up for this is plastic.nanna@gmail.com
other than that, i hoping to meet, stay with, work for, housesit for, fish with, go camping with, or just hang out with nice nomads as i travel south
bound to la paz en route to mexico city (to replace passports so drop me a line
if you would be up for this - im great company, and ill tell you all the juicy details of the tragic sinking!!!
well peace, love and fish taco's to yall, ive got to tell you ive been day dreaming about settling into a little cottage here one day on the baja, but
i think ill need to get the sailing out of my system frist no???

Actually, to set things straight, Brian's sailboat the Shelley B burned to the waterline in the Bay of La Paz. It was just in front of our slip in
Marina de La Paz. The story and photos are here :http://www.clubcruceros.org/
It was also the Club Cruceros in La Paz that helped collect funds to purchase the Phoenix as a replacement boat for Brian. This group is composed of
fellow cruisers and friends and provides for many charitable causes.
We are very sorry for your loss and it is a very nice circle of friendship to see that the Phoenix may get you back on the water.

There was a young lady here from Great Britain a few years back who lost her passport. She had it replaced through the British consulate in Tijuana
and sent to her here in Ensenada from the consulate in DF via messanger service. Maybe you don't have to go over there.
Come to think of it...I don't even remember that she went up to Tijuana. I think she did it all over the phone and internet.
Good luck.

Hola Sarah,
So sorry about all your troubles. But youth takes quick care of these little speed bumps in life.
fixtrauma (Don) has dropped off your care package and it is awaiting shari and Juan's arrival on thier return trip from Agua Verde.
Good luck with the renewals of your sailboat and passport. Making voyages is what life is all about. Buene suerte and Bon Voyage.

Please make sure to check all lines, connections and stays, etc before you set sail.
Especially check the anchor pin on the mast base and the bolts that secure the base.
If that boat sat at anchor for a while without power or maintenance ......
Looks like a nice little home.
Be safe !

Sarah, it sounds like BajaVida might be one of the group of "Baja Boyz" & I thought someone actually had a Baja Boyz user name on here, but I
can't find it now. You could U2U a private message to any individual user name, post an open message to a specific person or group of people in this
thread, or create a new thread using Baja Boyz as the title.

Sarah...Juan and shari were just here a little while ago. They have your care package and said they'll be home tonight.
It will be nice to get back sailing I am sure...a ship in harbor is safe -- but that is not what ships are for.

Hola todos...this is shari again back from a glorious camping trip...report to come later after we unpack.
I just wanted to mention here the fantastic assistance that the BajaBoyz were to Sarah through her ordeal. Peter, her crewmate was part of this grand
group of baja lovers. As soon as we heard of Sarah's misfortune, they bound into action sending 2 pick up trucks to Abreojos to rescue the castaways.
They were quick to get Sarah into some very trendy clothes...each coming up with something...tevas, shoes, a sweatshirt from one's alma mater, a
valued el Comandante t-shirt, pants etc....as well as plying her with alcohol to help overcome her trauma. They then bought us dinner at the Palapa
where we got to hear first hand all the juicy details of the fated voyage. I hope we can get a copy of the video of Sarah's account of the wreck of
the GAbriel!
In short, the Baja Boyz were outstanding...bravo gentlemen. We look forward to some of your accounts of the story as well.

the Baja Boyz are not that rough
there was a job to be done and it was done without hesitation or complaint
I remember neighbor Kevin handing me the phone that morning; Shari was on the other end telling me of the shipwreck and learning that Sarah and Peter
were safe. We had just finished with breakfast, we were milling about camp, everyone was gathered to hear the news. We needed a pickup or two and
someone who spoke Spanish.
Several had planned on going to Tortugas that day. The Boyz stepped up to the plate immediately. Within a few minutes we had 2 pickups and three
boyz ready to join the rescue party. After fueling up they headed south towards Abreojos. The first we heard was that the ship had beached north of
Abrepjos along the salt flats. The rescuers poked around the area to find nothing. They had Chelo's cell phone # in Abreojos and decided to go to
town to find out what they could. They soon found the boat. The rest is history.
A good group to be with. The Boyz did the right thing. I am proud to be part of them.
the video chronicle should be placed on you tube
