Literary event in Todos Santos - Naomi Shihab-Nye

I am passing this on to anyone in the area who might be interested. I certainly would be attending if I were still in town. Recently had the opportunity to read, and hear read, some of her poetry and although I do not consider myself a knowledgeable reader of poetry, her work is fabulous.

"An extraordinary literary event will be coming to Todos Santos this May. Naomi Shihab Nye--a poet, essayist and songwriter who is even more gifted than she is famous, will be leading a three-day poetry workshop. Intended to excite the students’ interest in the power, beauty and magic of words for both readers and writers, the workshop is not limited to those with writing experience. A class with Ms. Nye is a lively, dynamic event with a talented teacher who engages students deeply and quickly and touches the creative nerve of even those whose creative powers may feel dormant.
A quick web search will lead you to more accolades than you can absorb – from lengthy lists of awards and prizes to testimonials from Billy Collins, Bill Moyers, William Stafford and hundreds of others around the world who have experienced her poetry (she has written over 20 books), her teaching and her deep humanity. Two YouTube links that will give you a sense of her person and her work are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9xnbyBY7VY&feature=email

The class, limited to 20 students, is a rare opportunity. For all those who have been drawn to Baja for what it offers creatively, this is as good as it gets."
