San Felipe Chili Cook-Off (pictures)

We had a great time at the chili cook-off last weekend. There were about 23 participants cooking a interesting variety of chilis, and about 400, maybe more, people came out to enjoy the music, beer, and, of course, food. We didn'twin (or place or show, for that matter), but we met some terrific people and saw a few Nomads. Here are some pictures.

Bajabound2005 helps start the set-up

A few Punta Banda friends are there to cheer us on

One of these is what we are are knocking ourselves out for (as seen through tear-stained 75mm Canon lens)

Set-up time for all

Bajamigo finds something amusing

The toys around the camp were tempting

Leslie (Mrs. Big Mike) prepares to feed the hungry masses

A toast from more of our Punta Banda friends

BB2005 spots Bajalou in the crowd

Bajalou lends us his educated chili palate

BajaRob was located on the raucous side of the venue

All in all, it was a great experience at Club de Pesca. See you next year!

Did we miss any Nomads that were there? Bajamigo takes some great pix (except, of course, for the ones I take, so he can be in a few...) but when you take 200 photos you forget...and I just remembered Chuck and I don't think he's in a photo! And I don't recall his Nomad name...

And BTW, Pic #4 captioned something like "Punta Banda friends to cheer us on....". WRONG; they are from Punta Banda (La Bufadora to be exact) but they were COMPETITORS! They went to San Felipe as cheerleaders, then decided they wanted to compete!

Chuck is BajaWarrior and my wife Chris. Nice to have met you and your group from Punta Banda.

We were very impressed with the amount of people in attendance. Your Chili was great! I think we made the rounds and tried about half of them...

Chuck - about an hour ago I was standing in the kitchen and said "BajaWarrior"...so I remembered all on my own!

Fishbuck -- you should have been there. It think you would have had yourself a great time!

Woody --- Guacamole! We might need to add that to the Los Gordo's Chili Cook-off/salsa contest in La Bufadora. Aug 22 in case anyone forgot!

You know those bay leaves....you gotta kill 'em before they go into the chili. And if you look more closely, you'll notice that she's removing it from the ladle, not from the chili itself.

That looks like fun,I love chili, It looked like there were beans in those chilis? I love and always put beans in my chili, but I guess in the US no beans. I'd love to go on a taste teste.
