No water in Erendia! Ejido shut it off!!!
All,
Just got this message from my neighbor in Erendira (Castro's Camp)

The city leaders have decided to completely shut off water to ALL Erendira residents because they are not happy that many have not paid their water
bills. It will be at least 2 weeks but Felipe told me it could be a couple of months. This on top of a swine flu scare that requires people to
constantly wash their hands. The public schools are already closed and now those id**ts pull this. It might be a good idea for you to pass on this
information to others or let it be know on particular web sites. We will see again, as in the past, the locals coming onto properties and they will
empty pilas into water barrels. Not a drop coming out of faucets this morning.

This was a common tactic when the town where we're located was much smaller. It was fairly common for the water to be shut off for a week or so to
get the attention of those that had not paid. I would bet it actually won't be off for very long.

Perhaps those of you who have paid your water should redirect some of your anger towards your neighbors who haven't.

So there is no lockable valve on individual properties?
Coyote Cals is so far north of town, I would believe they are not on the city line.
Instead of shutting off the water to everyone (no income gained that way)... announce a temporary increase in the bill until the deadbeats pay.
There are health issues obviously... and punishing the good citizens is pretty stupid.

I am not sure about out there at Castro Camp David, but it does happen in areas of older systems where the only shut off valves to individual
properties are the ones that the home owners themselves install when building.

The water system is fed from a well east of town in the arroyo that the Baja Races come down. A few years ago copper theives stole the wires feeding
the pump and they were with out water for a few weeks until repairs were made. There is no large Tank on a hill just the pump and a confusing mess of
pipes. The ejido meetings have been focused on the water problem for quite a time. They had agreed to upgrade the system and double the monthly fee
from around $6 a month to $12 until that was done. Erendira is under the jurisdiction of the Ensenada Delegation and the Cops are a branch of
Ensenada's P.D..
There is a grand scheme to install new mains and meters at every users site. If they can't pay the electric bill (which is what this is mainly about)
I doubt the meters will ever happen. As far as lockable valves heck I don't think they know where many of the valves are and then they are the most
often the PVC Inline Valves with the Red handle. I am still trying to learn all of the valves and pipe runs at my place. Only the owners brother knows
where they are and we ask him when we are doing any digging or planning.
Coyote Cal's is on the same main as I am and the pressure flow on the best day is not very good. I am sure Rick will just get the same fellow with a
water truck that supplies Punta Cabra a few miles north to fill his Pila if he runs low. That is my plan if need be. That and showering with my wife
to conserve!

I have been out there to Punta Cabra, very nice area. Castro Camp is the one with some of the houses a bit "original" or "colorful", so to speak???

We stayed a few times at Castro's Camp in the late 70's/ early 80's in their cabins and went out in their pangas the next day for some super bottom
fishing (rock cod, etc.). Tom Miller put the place on the map with his reports in Western Outdoor News, Mexico West Newsletter, and his books. A bit
north from Erendira at Punta San Isidro...
Coyote Cal's is even further from town heading north towards PUNTA CABRAS... Perhaps the place has grown a lot since my last trip there in 2001?
